Not really happy with TI at the moment.

When I was on 2MB I would constantly be able to grab usenet at 190 odd KB per second off peak and was super reliable.
Since upgrading to 4MB it seldom goes over 360KBps. This evening it was sitting at 160KBps for hours on end and now after midnight its just over 200KBps.

General browsing and youtube is great but have noticed that other tube sites like the nsfw ones require buffering yet youtube is fine @ 720p. Some hectic shaping going on.

I seldom go over 60GB per month so not really a power uncapped user either.

Today TI is so far performing a lot better again. Up and down....

If you guys were in the position of having to apply and get ADSL for the first time, would you go with Telkom again?

On my 2mb line, after doing 96gb so far, I've received orange status.

Wonder why? 1meg lines normally do better than that, so that is very low for a 2Meg line.

I suspect like me they still have you on the 1Mb/s uncapped TI profile. This results in you getting 2Mb/s speeds but the data usage wrt throtteling is still calculated on the 1Mb/s parameters. You can call TI and ask them to check which one you are on, just don't get the idiots confused with the adsl portion, they need to check the isp side.

I don't think so tbh... I read mixed reviews, so I thought maybe I'd be lucky but apparently thats not the case. So dunno how long I will stay with them. I think if I leave before three months they take the modem back so dunno what to do. But I still need to test more before I can truly decide. I think so far I can probably live with it for a bit but it is most def not the greatest product.

Yes, although I've tried most of the other ISPs over the years I've always had a TI capped account to fall back on for business use until TI introduced decent QoS on their uncapped accounts in March this year (prior to that there was little or no protocol prioritization, QoS was your own indaba).

I've finally ditched my TI 20+20 softcap in favour of TI 10Mbps uncapped and have no regrets, still have some Afrihost & axxess capped accounts to fall back on if needed though :)

Thank's for the suggestion. I'll check that out

Been with WebAfrica (1 year) , Afrihost (1 year) , OpenWeb (2years) , Mweb (8 months too long) and 1 year with TI so far. I must admit, I have never had a better overall experience than I have had so far with TI. No ISP is going to be perfect all of the time, but Telkom have just been more balanced and consistent. No undue throttling (passed off as shaping - MWeb) and no having to mail them every 2 weeks to get a new account due to throttling (OpenWeb!). Just 1 stressful period this whole - year due to their upgrading activities in the WC - but that's about it.

Has something changed ito usage?

Someone indicated being in the "orange" for using 96GB on a 2 meg line.

I'm just about used 100GB and my downloads are mostly scheduled for 00:00 - 06:00.

I think the tracker are much further down the line than I have experienced the last in th last 4 - 5 months?

4Mbps line on 10 Mbps profile.

Edit:
2 days ago the bar was between the "normal" and "User" and about 5GB was added since then.

That looks normal for a 2mb line at this point.
You can expect about 350gb without issues.

Maybe for a 2meg, but neglected to mention that I have a 4meg line.
I'm still on the 10 meg profile, although 10 meg is not available for me.
Would that profile enable me to download in the region of 1TB, should I wish to?

Why don't you downgrade your profile to 4Meg and save R125 a month?

My tracker is also showing a lot more of the green bar than it did previously and I've only downloaded 50Mb on my 4Meg account.

That sounds strange.
I'm on about the same level on the tracker and I'm only on a 2mb data account with 4mb speeds.
I'd phone and check with Telkom to be safe.

I don't know if there is something from with streaming or general throughput at the moment, or if my orange status is resulting in shaped video streaming, but I can't play youtube 480p smoothly ATM

EDIT: On 2mb

480p fine here on 2Mb/s same goes for most 720p content.
