Origin and Steam yes, generally NNTP traffic is set on a schedule unless there was something I wanted while I was on leave.

Regardless, I was able to get more down on Openweb with 0 issue.

350GB's is not that much :)

350GB is not that much? It is plenty in 13 days...

You're averaging about 27GB a day.

Finally got a reply from TelkomZA :), thanks Charl.

I have downloaded 350GB on a 4mbps line for the month of January and my account has been throttled, so for anyone wondering what the thresholds are now you know.

I do not use torrents, all traffic is NNTP, Steam and Origin.

So looks like I will be cancelling and going back to Openweb, I no longer use Netflix so my previous issue on Openweb is not relevant.

The threshold value is not fixed as we have tested here since March/April last year. Ti will not reveal any kind of value so it comes down to what us the users get roughly to know how much.

Many 4Mbps users have done in excess of 320GB - 500GB before getting throttled. Don't make the mistake of thinking the value you hit now is the same next time as i did :) (on 2Mbps now 10Mbps).

Usage tool is just as crap as their service, logged in from multiple PCs/browsers - all I get is "Click here to resubmit your details"

And, had no issues on Openweb, so will go back ;) Only reason for leaving was Netflix ran better on Telkom but no longer use it.

My bigger problem is I am throttled to 0.02mbps...

You're looking at doing at about 800GB's over the course of the month, thats a lot and i dont know very many isps that wouldn't throttle you on a standard package. You mentioned being fine on Openweb, was that the gold package?

Like I said, I was able to easily hit 1Tb on Openweb (Gamers King), no issues.

My usage was high because I was on leave and used a bit more than normal. Also when signing up with Telkom the agent said they do not throttle they only shape....

I made it clear to Telkom when I signed up how much data I use on average and was told there was no problem but they do shape the traffic.

Had a look and the line and DSLam traffic all testing fine, you have downloaded 350gig for the month and according to Telkom Internet the FUP is currently active on your account.
This will cause reduced speeds up an till the end of the month unfortunately.

To prove, it would be appreciated if you can connect with the test account below to confirm that your speeds are fine.

:wtf: You've been on MyBB for a year and still believe 10210 knows what they're talking about.

Easily hit 1TB :wtf: ? Thats just about max line usage.

Things seem to be mostly fixed for me today, although I'm still not going to hold my breath in thinking this is the last of the issues for the next few months.

Obviously it was not the norm, but I hit that one month and not even a beep from Openweb. I was extremely happy with them just the SO wanted Netflix and Hulu, for some reason they would not stream correctly, so switched to Telkom.

unfortunately I have to work with the information the Telkom gives me, I can't exactly go to them and say "a user on mybb says so". I made my requirements known to Telkom and got an account based on their recommendation and was told at no time do they throttle they only shape.

Ok well imho i think you got lucky with Openweb, i would be surprised if that happened all the time.

That's Afrihost leaderboard like on a 4Mbps Business Account, which is about as close to true uncapped as you can get in this country.

Yeah i can understand on a business account but a standard uncapped gaming account its not the norm.

Openweb are fantastic with Downloads, the Gamers King account was fantastic. Going to sign up for the Titanium and try it out. Just trying to get hold of the accounts department at Telkom to find out what the cancellation process is and if it will only be done end of Feb.

I left my NNTP running permanently one month with Openweb some time ago and had no issues :D, but like I said I would obviously not do that again (not the norm), I normally schedule between 10:00pm and 07:00am. While I was on leave I just hammered it a bit, thought worse case they start shaping the protocols, but nope line dropped to 0.02mbps.

Well, you certainly use what you pay for sir.

hehe, but like I said, it is not often I use bandwidth like this, exceptions are when I buy Humble bundles, Steam specials, on leave, so not all that often.

I do not mind them shapping NNTP to astraweb, of steam or origin, but to throttle the entire line to that speed is just silly.

I bought uncapped to not worry about the months I have high usage, I have been with Afrihost, Mweb, Openweb and now Telkom and I can honestly say Openweb is the way to go, granted I was rather annoyed with the Netflix/Hulu issues I had.

TI will cancel your 4Mbps Uncapped when you phone them - it's killed when they hit cancel so you'll need something for the rest of Jan month. Depending on your billing cycle you'll probably still be billed for Feb on your next invoice with a credit being passed on the invoice after that.

Warning - do not short pay in anticipation of the credit, you could be cut-off.
