If they paid me that would be great but no, I don't work for them.
I just happen to be a happy customer.
It seems I'm pissing some of you off though so I'll stay out of here from now on.

Telkom can work on their own PR from now on.

Be very happy that not affected as you will be complaining like the rest of SA

After 4 and a half days, R500 in phonecalls, 20 calls to their call centre, 3 tweets, 4 facebook posts and 2 emails they've finally sorted my line issue and I'm back online. Tested the line as well, international speeds sitting at around 250ms latency with 1-1,5mbps down (test was done at around 2pm), locally i was at 70ms latency with about 2mbps down on a 4mb uncapped line. Will see if it holds up and how after-hours speeds look...let's hope...

Pings are looking ALOT better now and downloads are fast again :)
Lets hope it stays this way

Youtube for me, as well as international sites and other streaming sites, is still slow. Game pings appeared to be fine last night, but I"m not sure how long that's going to last.

You couldve bought a landline phone with that money. It's tollfree remember.

My issue is that Ranger has said the problem lies not with Telkom but with a 3rd party.

I believe I said it was *caused* by a 3rd party.

You cant tell me that you have never been held up from doing your job before because you are waiting for someone to complete their bit so you can continue. In my profession this has happened to me countless times, I have installed the Servers in rack, got them all booted up, all I'm waiting for is the cabling guys to finish patching the new network points. Client is pissed at me because their new systems aren't up yet, whereas I'm done but I'm waiting on the contractors to finish.
Its a similar situation here. If Ranger could fix the problem himself I'm sure he would have done so long ago.

I for 1 am just grateful the problem has been identified.

If people cant accept that then move on to another ISP, there's no point bitching about it when its clear the issue is not Telkoms to resolve.

I didn't say it was not ours (Telkom Internet's) to resolve.

We will resolve it. A decision on a course of action to resolve it was taken after discussions between us and technical resources on the Wholesale side, following some investigations on both sides.

Unfortunately, this course if action will take some time (2-3 days) to run its course. There may be one or two things we can do to mitigate a bit more until the processes have been completed.

At least I can connect to Netflix for the first time in six days. Speed very slow, resolution at 240p and buffer every 20-30 seconds.

Man I hope you right!!!

I'm guessing that this is the new capacity Afrihost bought that came into play now. And to think I left AH for TI

BTW Electric I know yours is fine

What region? If you aren't sure, please check a traceroute. We are most concerned about our Cape Town site (105.226.0.* on hops 2 and 3 or 3 and 4).

Netflix was tested and seemed quite good via our Gauteng site.

I see we're still screwed. At least I have a web africa uncapped to fall back on this month.. might just cancel TI and stick with WA.
