What region? If you aren't sure, please check a traceroute. We are most concerned about our Cape Town site (105.226.0.* on hops 2 and 3 or 3 and 4).

Netflix was tested and seemed quite good via our Gauteng site.

Same here with netflix, streaming at 240p with buffer here and there. 2 meg line... Struggling to make faces on TV so bad is the quality...

Tested both Afrihost and vox, quality for netflix via my Telkom line is a joke. Vox was exceptional followed closely by Afrihost

Wrong. The true test is from 20h00 to 23h00, and we passed that in Gauteng, and might need to write the ''her" for Cape Town.

Interesting, whats the deal with this time period? Everything has been running much better today but ive noticed speeds did drop around 8.30pm, running at about 1/3 my line speed atm.

It is entertainment time, lots of people watching youtube, and some watching netflix.

Oh ok, this is only my second month with Telkom. Previous isps peak period was 8-5, interesting to know that Telkom also have the 20-23 time frame. Thanks for the reply

Speedtests are meaningless (let's prioritise traffic to the servers so it looks good), but here they are:

International:
Last Result:
Download Speed: 8023 kbps (1002.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 734 kbps (91.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 235 ms
16/1/2014 21:09:11

Local (Cape Town):

Last Result:
Download Speed: 7850 kbps (981.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 842 kbps (105.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 21 ms
16/1/2014 21:10:22

In no way do these speedtests reflect my internet experience in any way, shape or form (see the driver download speed above).

And, as others have reported, use another account, BAM, internet bliss.

And, yes, Electric, I know yours is fine.

Edit: Used 68GB so far this month. Average of 4.2GB per day (so it seems that my downloads scheduled between 12 and 6AM are pulling something).

They are throttling downloads for a while now. Seem to average around 20-30KB/s.

If they could just come clean and say until when this will be and when does the throttling kick in.
How else will I know if this is a temporary thing or permanent.

Traceroute?

To what I think is one of the Dota 2 local servers, but trust me in game it jumps around between 60ms and 450ms. Seemed worst between 7pm and 9pm. My Afrihost account stable 49ms - no problem.

GT6 race event on PS3 tonight was a total shambles. Guys could not see eaach other on track. Struggled to get into lobbies. I was the race host and got disconnected twice.
I can not say for sure Telkom is to blame, but the other GT6 lobbies seemed to do okay.
A lot of time and preperation goes into events and for it to be ruined by connection issues is such a let down.

How else will I know if this is a temporary thing or permanent.

I believe I said it was *caused* by a 3rd party.

I didn't say it was not ours (Telkom Internet's) to resolve.

We will resolve it. A decision on a course of action to resolve it was taken after discussions between us and technical resources on the Wholesale side, following some investigations on both sides.

Unfortunately, this course if action will take some time (2-3 days) to run its course. There may be one or two things we can do to mitigate a bit more until the processes have been completed.
