Telkom Internet Uncapped User Feedback.

Thanks,the exchange seems pretty far. Theres at least 2 exchanges closer. So do i have to phone telkom and ask them to check if it's congested? Does a congested exchange not affect local? The pings are similair on all my accounts, the only problem is the speed.

So I got the free telkom internet promotion on the 7 November 2011 for which I was summarily charged a Uncapped data package non pro-rata for the time between 12 Oct and 12 November. I understand that Telkom, being the ****s they are, dont have a pro rata rate for data. My issue is that the lady who helped me through the application and activation process failed to at least inform me that I should wait until the start of the next billing cycle before I apply, Instead she happily forgot to mention that and I was left paying R389 for uncapped internet between 7-11 november. How the hell can they do that? Does anyone know what recourse I can take against telkom? Surely the person helping me was negligent in some way? She did not inform me of any pro rata rates that I will be paying or anything.

Dial 10210 and log a billing dispute, explaining as per above that you were not supplied with the correct information to make an informed decision.

Do you think that will work? I mean I've been to the Telkom store and literally gave the finger to their faces after pleading and explaining to them that I was never told I would be billed pro rata.
 
An update on the uncapped billing period problem.

Since the beginning of the year Telkom have billed TI uncapped and capped accounts on a calendar month basis thus resolving the pro-rata debate when switching from one to the other :)
 
switched over to newsdemon last night. they had a $7 special running. Got speeds of up to 126kB/s on a 1mb line. stayed that way from about 7pm to about 11:30pm, I fell asleep. Checked it this morning at 5am, was running 107kB/s. Seems like telkom is not so bad after all.

Dude, what does that mean? Seems you know a lot about telecoms and telkom in general...

In short last year it was possible in some cases to open a TI uncapped account and only get a few days of use before you were billed for the next month (Telkom were the only ISP billing uncapped this way).

Well then I better cancel my uncapped with them TODAY if they moving me to calendar month billing cycle, lest I be charged the whole non pro rata data rate for the month of march if I cancel on the 1st. Can we cancel immediately by phoning telkom or would it be quicker to go into a telkom store and do it there?

I'm a great believer in the Telkom Direct shops, the call centre people don't seem to understand my brand of UK English which leads to problems :)
 
Haha, I know what you mean Mick! Spent close to 40 mins on hold, but eventually got through to a telkom agent, and cancelled the uncapped data effective immediately. Got reference number and name of the agent, just in case they try to pull a fast one on me....
 
Telkom Direct shops? I tried that the other day and the consultant sat me down at a booth, called the hotline, handed me the phone and went back to his desk...WTF???
 
After my 1mb uncapped adsl was cut off last week, I reported it, received my reference number and 10 days later called the call centre again to basically say WTF? The polite but useless lady said she would prioritise my reference number. I call again today and only after threatening to switch to MWeb (those morning radio adverts have been effective) do they send someone out.

Seriously, this is not how customer service works! :(
 
Well my speeds during the day have increased since the beginning of march,coincedence?

I get 0.85 down 0.45 up on the 1mb Trial. My Torrents move at 80kbps++ throughout the whole day, Youtube is shaped in the day heavily. In the evening when I play BF3, I get a pingspike every 20-30 seconds of about 500ms, which is very iritating. When i change over to the Capped Telkom account I seem to be fine. All in all good service but not great. When the 3 month is up I will def be changing ISPs.
