Hey guys,

It is a nightmare to cancel a Telkom Internet account and debit order. Phoning 0800 500 200 and currently hanging on for 50mins listening to these atrocious notes called music. So i finally get put through to a service consultant.

First, let me say, i filled out the application with my ID number, my bank details and my signature. Now they say they want to talk to my mum cause the ADSL is on her name. I asked what does that have to do with anything as this is a seperate entity as both were taken out on sperate occasions. I asked to be put through to the manager, she said ok....2 minutes later the line went dead.

Looks like the only solution is to cancel my bank account...

no, dont do that. if they debit, yours .. you will fail the debit request and will put you on that ITC bad credit list? Thats what i had to do with cell-c once, and I can tell you - they gave me a bloody hard time making it clear that they were the ones at fault for not canceling the debit from their side.
I suggest you call them till they pick up, request to cancel the debit, get the ref nr.. then call the bank, cancel debit on that side too, get ref nr too.

Then once they come and say you failed to pay a debit (knowing telskum they wouldn't have canceled the debit order) you will have proof from their end, and your end you did everything in your power to cancel the debit order.. they will be forced to call the ITC records and take you off if that's what it leads to.

well, i gave in and made my mum phone.

Now the story goes, my mum cancelled the adsl last week (this is correct) and they cancelled the Telkom Internet as well (now im wondering how they cancel somone else's subscription).

They assured my mum the isp portion is cancelled and debit orders should stop barring this coming month. So i told my mum to phone the accounts and check what figure will be debited this coming month...in the process my mum finds out the debit order has not been cancelled at all...sigh
