Telkom introduces TelkomMedia

I wonder at what speed , price and cap. I shudder!

Yeah right .... error message while watching your favorite program "We are sorry you have reached your allocated cap for the month please top up your account"

I am sure the streaming tv part wil be seperate to your normal bandwidth allowance.

There is no way they will tell you price before the pilot has started but logic would apply that if you took the DSTV subscription of R400 and the Telkom landline subscription of R92 and the ADSL subscription of R270+ (for 192 DSL). So a total of at least R762 and then knock off X% to make it competitive and you should be in the ballpark.
Of course you could be getting an MNet style service and then you are looking at R562 (R200 for MNet)

Hi Dominic

We have an interview with the new broadband officer tommorow. Will try to get some info from him, but I do not think they have a full business model yet. Will try to get as much info as possible...

Regards,

RPM

Does this MS IPTV solution allow streaming to Linux boxes? I sure as s1ht am not installing windows just to watch tv.

I wonder if they'll have an access fee, and then still charge per gig -evil look-

If they can squeeze a single cent more out of you they will. :(

They'll have competition - esp when it comes to the tv so their traditional business model of over charging and crapping on the consumer wont work - besides, MonoChoice already adopted it.

Telkom and Microsoft... *shudder* what a combination. their IPTV = Very Expensive BSoDs :D

I somehow doubt that Linux can play the WMV9 codec.

I wouldn't be too sure about that. MPlayer uses a number of windows codecs in binary form.

And what about DRM ???.

Where there's a will there's a way. Linux programmers are streaks ahead of M$, especially when it comes to cracking stuff. :)

A cross-functional team within Telkom recently launched the TelkomMedia Triple Play Connect Programme (3PCP).

surely that should be "disfunctional team"?

My friend is a tester for the new service. They are giving him a 2gig account which he will use for the media viewing.

This is wat he told me, there is a list of shows that can be viewed. There are daily updated shows and weekly updated shows. You choose wat you want to watch. eg of daily : "egoli", eg of weekly : "spiderman 2"
