So last month Telkom decided to debit my account on the 24th because the 25th was a Saturday, their explanation was they were under the "Impression" that since the 25th was a Saturday I would get paid on the 24th. I didn't have enough funds in the account to cover the Debit order so it bounced. I was charged a penalty by my bank, I called in and the Agent told me that I should just make a manual payment and it will be fine. I did just that, Today i get an invoice and I have been charged R200 for the failed debit. My salary does come through on the Saturday if the 25th falls on it, i have been with Telkom for 5 years and have been paid on a Saturday before so why do they now decide to have the 'Impression' that I got paid on the Friday?????????? They are ignoring me on Twitter and i have been holding for their call centre for 14 Minutes now!

That's rough, good luck with the struggle.

PS...always try and have debit orders come off the 30th instead, even the 15th if you can manage your spending accordingly.

Yep, they run debit orders early if chosen date falls on weekend or public holiday.
Their website cleverly says payment is due ‘by’ whatever monthly date you pick:-

'On which day of the month does my Telkom debit order go off?
That’s up to you – you can choose the 15th, 20th, 25th, or the last day of the month.

What is a billing arrangement?
This is the contract between you and Telkom. We agree to give you the service you’ve asked for, and you agree to pay for it by a certain day each month.'

Very annoying that they don’t warn people - they used to sms re early payment runs.

Are you so poor not to have that amount of money saved in your account?

LOL! Who do you think you are? Pathetic.

Debit orders are the worst. Rather do your own payments at the end of the month.
Keeps you up to date where your money is actually going.

There can be other reasons, like his transactional account being different to his salary receiving and debit order accounts, like mine are. Or his savings are in another account type (even bank) with better interest. So the only one that is poor is you, with no imagination.

There are now more people not working in SA than working, its hard having to earn for the leeches who are just incubating machines for more leeches without prospects..

Also doesn't help that government steals and citizens burn stuff all the time.

Many of us don't have money in our accounts the day before payday. What utopia do you live in that you don't know the plight of the average South African?

I have some choice words for you, but that would get me banned. Many of us struggle to make ends meet let alone manage to live effectively in this economy. Some of us may be classed as working poor. Totally insensitive statement from you.

All my money goes to my credit card to repay it from the previous month or to savings. I only put money in my cheque account the day before a debit order is due.

If they change the date, I'd be in the same situation than him.
