Telkom LIT Android media box - Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

@KobusL & @SeRpEnT

Can you guys post how your LiT box is connected to say AV or TV etc?

As @Dolby posted from engineer guy :p, the box needs to reset due to HDCP rules so my guess is something failed along this process [totally a guess on my part].

I think we need a template for users who have had the upgrade and their setup since all will not be the same :) and for those who have had the dead android lying on it's side with a red X :crying:.

A07 version.
Connected via Wifi to ADSL Router
Connected to TV via HDMI. Nothing else connected to Box.
No additional storage attached, also do not know how much free space was on the box prior. Had no media stored on the box, only some apps, some sideloaded.

Box was on for about 2 hours before I got home and started checking for updates. Used the built-in android update check and the OTA agent. Both found NO updates. Decided to restart box using the settings menu.
Immediately after rebooting, it displayed "Shutting Down", and began to install the firmware. I had a screen that said "Erasing" for a while though. It booted again into the new splash screen. I waited 5 minutes before unplugging as the splash screen hangs as we've learnt. Rebooted and completed the android set up screens.
I did not load any apps at this stage,. Left the box on for another hour to 'download the other update in the background' as we've learnt its a 2 stage process.

Got a prompt to install an update after an hour, allowed it to install and the android set up screen showed after it was completed. No hanging splash screen on this install. It automatically downloads and installs the certified apps (Youtube, Netflix, DSTV now and google services) thereafter without the option to uninstall these apps.
At the same time, I plugged in a USB with my APK's to install some apps.
I opened each app to set it up and all seemed fine.

1. Does normal Playstore Netflix work? And if so, is it any better than the modded version that was shared on here a while ago?
The app installs by itself when the box is restarted. I opened it but do not have a netflix account.

2. Does DSTV Now work?
Yes, I noticed no change here. Had an issue activating, but I think it was a DSTV problem last night, eventually got it to activate.

3. Does YouTube work without all the hanging and slow down? I had to go back to an earlier version of YT which is working most of the time now.
Yes, tried it and all seemed good.

4. Any other bugs caused by the upgrade?
I've used Sideload Launcher before and previously it showed the "Settings" button for the android system. Cannot see that now in Sideload Launcher.
Blue "NET" light on the front panel stays on even after the box is put to sleep. This light never lit up for me previously.
I was able to use my smart TV remote for one button on/off. Now it doesn't switch on with pressing the TV remote but does switch off.

A07 version.
Connected via Ethernet cable to Fibre Router
Connected to TV via HDMI. Only Power cable, Ethernet cable and HDMI cable connected to LIT Box.
64GB microSD card in LIT Box, no other additional storage attached.
Have some unused apps on the LIT Box, most of them on internal memory, NOT on the microSD card. Moved most of my apps back to internal memory, because I had some problems with updating Apps on microSD card.

Will try uninstalling most Apps and then try the upgrade again. Maybe during the weekend.

That sounds annoying. Blue light = on. Red light = switched off. Anyone else with new upgrade have this problem?
Under Settings - do you have sleepmode enabled as an power key option for your Litbox or is it disabled?

Just a theory

Seeing that the update does a full wipe anyway, it could be possible to force the update by just doing a factory reset.

I say this because during the initial setup there is a check for updates.

Also, because we only know of A07s getting the update thus far, it might only work on those.

Anyone with an A07 willing to try? I probably will this evening when i get home

You go 1st. :)

Thats why i mentioned its the light labelled "Net". This light never came on before.
The power light functions as normal. (Blue light = on. Red light = switched off)
Under powerkey settings, theres 3 options: Restart, Shutdown, Sleep. So its set on sleep.
Also, i think this applies to the physical powerkey on the device and not via remote. The settings determine what it should do when you press the key on the box itself.
Cannot try with the remote as mine stopped working. Using my TV remote for all other navigating of the box.
@Dolby Where can I get a replacement remote?

You go 1st. :)
I did, on my A11. For science and all.

Result is that it checks for updates, then returns with "unable to check for updates". Now its just stuck there

EDIT: I did connect to a wifi network.

Hi all, just a quick update to what Dolby already posted.

The update has only been released to a portion of the A07 population currently, performing a factory reset will not trigger the update process. We are doing the roll-out in phases in order to determine how the update servers handle the load, since each update is in the vicinity of about 550 MB.

The update will be released to all in-field devices once we have managed to iron out all the issues that we encounter.

If you encounter any issue that was caused by your device updating, please email the Nology Support Desk with your serial number and MAC address - [email protected]

Eina. A 550mb update will take a while to download on my Wallet-Sensitive™ adsl line.

Telkom has disabled my litbox remotely, and now it just shows red LEDs.

Volunteering to join the test of the A11 model when you have one :D

If I decide to wait and see how bug free the new version is, will I be able to do the upgrade at a later time? At the moment you guys are pushing to certain boxes. But will I be able to notify you guys to resend the update at a later stage, let's say late December or so?

The device only presents two options when the update has been downloaded, "Install" and "Later". The update will have downloaded by the time that this message appears on screen. Once the update is triggered the device will download the update package and it will consume bandwidth doing so.

If it is any consolation, we have tested this firmware version quite extensively and it has been approved by all stakeholders. That is not to say that it will be completely bug free, we can't possibly account for all the different use cases present in the field.

So what you are saying is that if I should chose "Later" then it will pop up again at a later stage to ask me again? Would there be a way I can trigger it myself (the pop up)?
