Telkom LIT Android media box - Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

called the JHB tech support, they will force the update to the MAC address, you are GOLD dude, GOLD!!!

Remember to be patient with the updates they will send you.

First it will take a few hours/possibly more than a day depending on your internet speed to download the update in the background. Then it will initiate the update process in two stages...and can take a good few hours...just be patient.

I have two Litboxes of same age and they both rock with the new updates and firmware. Everything from Netflix, Showmax, DSTV Now works perfectly.

but but but, what about this loadshedding we having?????? is it gonna cause a possible firmware "brick" during download/install?

LOL.
That's actually quite possible. Make sure to initiate the process once your area is in the clear and no loadshedding forecasted for at least 2-3 hours while it's installing.

Hi,
Sorry if this has been covered, but I tried to search. Don't know the correct terms so makes it a bit harder.

My parents got a Lit box. Their surround sound receiver is a bit older school, with only co-ax and optical inputs.
I'm trying to get surround sound to the amp via optic. It doesn't work directly, (from what I read it might be a Dolby licensing issue).

I've got it wired now to an HDMI audio stripper (HDMI throughput with optical or stereo out. It is set to 5.1), but still can't get 5.1 from the Lit.
Anybody with suggestions? I only have stereo at home, with an Ematic 4k box. So I could probably swop boxes if it would work, but no way to test optical outputs at home.

Any help would be appreciated.
Erich

The Lit box doesn't support audio passthrough as far as I remember or only basic formats.

To see exactly what it supports, you can upload or PM me your Kodi log file then I can tell you what it supports.

Kodi log file uploader addon:
It's in the official Kodi repo, programs section.
It will ask you to enable unknown sources to install addons, enable that.
Then go to System - Logging - Debug logging and exit Kodi and re-open it before using the addon.

Or after enabling debug logging and re-opening and exiting Kodi, you can also copy this file data | sdcard | storage>/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi/temp/kodi.log and upload it to eg. pastebin.
This is a hidden folder, so you need to use a file manager that supports showing hidden files and folders.

Thank you kindly. Not sure when I see them again, but will try. I was reading on the Ematic 4K that someone got it to work, maybe I will just swop boxes.

Will let you know once I have the log.

Regards

Yeah I think you are right about that. From what I have read its a known problem for Ematic/Jetstream/Miboxes and obviously also Litbox. Either a licensing issue or just plain poor implementation by the box manufacturers...

Most Important, you need to switch off the "Sync Playback to Display" in the Playback-Video option.

You also need to set the number of channels to 2.0
Allow passthrough but enable Dolby Digital (AC3) transcoding.

Thanks. Where do I fix that? In the droid settings? I can't recall seeing those options last time I fiddled.

Could not get this uploaded with the previous 2.

Thank you, I will try it.

Excuse my ignorant question, but if the settings are in Kodi, would it just affect the Kodi app, or will it enforce global transcoding, i.e. from the Netflix app?

I ran the Kodi log on my Ematic now, it has got support for DTS, AC3 (DD) raw and EAC3 (DD+) raw. Does anyone have a Lit log to compare the implementation? I can only get to the Lit box next week to pull the log.

I appreciate the help so far guys.

This would be Kodi specific.

Anyone got a 64GB SD card working on their Litbox?

If it's true that Litbox will soon be updated to Android TV 9.0 which will enable full SD card functionality again..then I am seriously considering getting a high speed (UHS class 3) micro SD for using my Litbox for....erm....content downloads (ARRRR!!).

I just use a Raspberry Pi for content downloads, and share the directory as a Samba share ... , thus avoid the vagaries of Android TV

I have since managed to get Torrentium to work (had to subscribe to Realdebrid). Now I just d/l the small .torrent link and then open it with Torrentium and just stream the torrent (actual Real debrid converts the torrent to a stream so it's not your usual torrent connection. Able to pause, forward and reverse. No buffering. No need to stress about space to d/l either. I am happy.

Will not work for everyone as some peepz want to have the file stored. I am not a hoarder though and happy to consume content as opposed to building a large collection. Torrentium actually keeps tab of all your downloaded .torrent files and sort of provides you with a library anyways should you wish to revisit a video in the future..
