Telkom LIT Android media box - Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

In terms of the hardware that is in this thing, is it better to load a different firmware or stick with the current one?
 
I personally would not mess with it. There are hdcp keys and drm stuff involved

I would vote no.

As above from Techhead. Also, what have Telkom put on this firmware that is not vanilla?
It looks like a clean Android TV OS 7.1.2 with the normal Google apps pre-installed to me at least. I havent found anything I want to remove even.
 
I would like to root it though. Can fix a bug or two

I did send an email to nology asking if they can escalate that, but no word back on it.

But once you root, certain apps will stop to work. DSTV Now detects root and blocks streaming. I am sure Netflix will do the same.

There are apps that block root detection too ;)

Haha shoulda known, I haven't used rooted devices much. That said, I'd rather just keep on asking the manufacturer to fix it, to get it sorted properly. Much like I just asked Logitech to get the Harmony to work.
 
@techead - would you be able to update the first post as its a lekker quick reference guide and maybe add all the new tips and tricks?

good idea, think I will do that.

Work has been crazy for me, and having a 2nd kid hasnt exactly helped my ability to be able to track this thread.

If you could all please let me know exactly what you want me to update and edit, then I will do so

A. Logitech Harmony remote supports box now. When adding device, search for:
Manufacturer: Telkom
Device: TVB-100

B. To fix 5.1 sound for all types of media in Kodi:
1. With Kodi opened, go over to the “System” tab and open “Settings”
2. Open “System” (make sure you are on Expert settings)
3. Go down to “Audio output” and go into that
4. You want to make sure the “Number of channels” says 2.0. This is important.
5. Check “Enable passthrough”.
6. Enable Dolby Digital, Disable Dolby Digital Plus and DTS
7. Back out of the settings to the Kodi homescreen so you can test it out.

C. DSTV Now is at version 1.42.4 and available in Play Store and doesn't need the Sideload launcher anymore

D. To disable screensaver, need to enable ADB (Android Debug Bridge)

1. Go to “Settings” at the bottom of LeanbackLauncher
2. Select “About” icon at the top row, most right side
3. Press “Build” button, located at the bottom for 7 times.
4. Go back “Home” and Go to “Settings” again, Developer options are now available on the System Preferences row, right most side.

1. Install ADB on PC on the network
2. Get network IP of Litbox in network settings or info
3. For me it was: adb connect 192.168.241.xxx

Get current sleep timeout with:
adb shell settings get secure sleep_timeout
adb shell settings get system screen_off_timeout

Set new sleep timeout:
adb shell settings put secure sleep_timeout -1
adb shell settings put system screen_off_timeout 2147460000

-- ADB can also install sideloaded apps from your PC, so its easier than downloading the file on the box
adb install filename.apk

Those are the ones I can think off at the moment.
