It should - is it current version or no updates. It should show live TV and there was a recent update - otherwise clear cache stop app, and then restart. Hopefully fixes your issue.

One would think that Netflix wants their app on as many devices as possible. I wonder why they would reject the LIT box?

Probably because they need to know that the device is capable of supporting their encoding schemes. And it is a time / cost issue somewhere as well. They probably think it is cheaper and easier to support a handful of known pieces of hardware than the whole horde of trash out there where heaven alone knows what short cuts have been taken to reduce costs.

So in the end a lot of competent boxes get lumped with the trash.

Sorry only saw this now. I found out how to change the subtitles appearance on Netflix, which made them legible, but then they appeared out of sync. sigh. So I downloaded a new version from the interwebz (720p mkv) and all seems fine. No pixelation. Seems like the box didnt like my old episodes for some reason
For anime use crunchyroll. Theres ads on the free version but no issues with subtitles

Not clear cut, so ja, well, no, fine ...

That could be more than a little ambiguous - depending on what you want it to mean.

After reading most articles in this regard, I was left with the impression that LIT box was excluded. As resolution for free LIT package data tops out at 360 or 480 resolution. For it to qualify for "free"

Its not the devices or box that get zero rating, but rather specific services when on the LIT Plan.
LIT Plan info: https://secure.telkom.co.za/today/shop/plan/telkom-lit_2017/

Lit is included on the following packages:
1. UnlimtedHome 10Mbps packages and up
2. SmartBroadband 50GB and 100GB
From: https://secure.telkom.co.za/today/shop/home/plan/telkom-lit-home/

My understanding for it to be FREE, is that the resolution must not exceed 360 or 480, not certain which. Resolutions of 720 and 1080 or higher are not free .

As always, the devil is in the details

Hi guys, seems to be a lot of negative sentiment regarding the Lit box. Before I read this thread I was set on the Lit box, but now I am not sure. If you had to choose all over, would you still go for the Lit box or rather buy something like the Xiamo Mi box? Another unit I am looking at is the ATV495Max, also google certified. Can't find a lot of information on the ATV495Max, but the Mi box looks to have it's own bag of problems. Main reason for buying is for kids playroom. Will mostly watch ShowMax. Then there will be the odd rugby game since the projector is in the play room... Some feedback would be appreciated.

I have a mibox in my bedroom as well as one in the tv room and then a lit box in the kids playroom/family room.
I can only give my opinion based on what we use these boxes for.
We do not have hard drives plugged in etc. Do not play games. All boxes running on wifi so the lan port on lit box (mibox only has wifi) is not being used. These boxes only gets used for streaming purposes so please view my opinion based on before mentioned.

The mibox wins for me personally compared to the lit box but again based on what we use it for.

The mibox has proper working netflix so if this is important for you then the lit box is useless (sideloading netflix is not a good experience). If netflix is not important for you, well then its a toss up between the 2, again depending on your needs.
Mibox has voice control/assistant with google app update, lit box does not, but we never use it.
Android 7 vs 6 honestly does not make a difference for our use so I can not turn this into a positive for us.
Dstv app works exactly the same on either box so its a tie there. Youtube same on both. Showmax same. Other streaming apps from aptoide all work the same. Remotes are basically the same exept for the voice control button and mic on mibox remote. Mibox looks slightly better (personal opinion). Lit box has ethernet and enough usb ports etc but we do not use either so not a plus for us. Both STREAM 4k content without issues but I can not comment on proper high birate files played from usb.
Again, much of a muchness if not for netflix and/or voice.

The biggest reason the mibox wins for me is that my litbox’s hdmi port failed after 2 weeks. The pain and mission I had to go through to deal with telkom during this time was just unbearable. I waited 8 weeks for a “replacement” unit only to be dissapointed even more by receiving a refurbished unit with a scratch on the box itself and scuff marks on the remote. At this point I was just sick of dealing with telkom and did not bother fighting any more. I just dont have the time for all the queues, telephone calls and arguing.

Long story short, if you want netflix, sleeker looking device and voice assistant then go for the mibox.
If you do not care about netflix or voice assistant but need extra usb ports as well as ethernet without buying adaptors, then go for the lit box.

Apologies for all the babbling. Hopefully you found something useful in all of this.

Must say I'm quite happy with the box, just side loaded the Netflix app which works well. Showmax, Red Bull TV, YouTube all work well.

Kodi is a bit frustrating but with a bit of tinkering I can get a semi decent stream of Eurosport.

LiveTV.net is ok, nothing special.

Still prefer Apple TV no hate please

Only used in the man/pain cave section of the garage.
