Telkom LIT Android media box - Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

Would it be fair to say it's niche at this point in time?
I don't think so. The current generation consoles all support HDR and most new game releases support HDR. The Xbox even employs HDR on older many non-HDR games quite well.

I stream Amazon Prime, Netflix, Disney, and a few others and the HDR content is constantly growing.

So no, I would say it is no longer niche. It's important to have a TV that can actually display HDR content correctly though.

You can very clearly see the affect of HDR on a good panel.

Are you seeing the content, as it was created, or you seeing an altered version, that appeals to your point of view.

It will depend on how you setup you TV at the end of the day. I have done a HSR calibration by using my Xbox as it has a basic calibration for HDR, so I would imagine my setup is not far off from what the original creator wants viewers to see and experience.

There was a doccie on Netflix about night time animals that was filmed with HDR. Watching that with HDR enabled compared to HSR disabled is like night and day (excuse the pun). The same for many other content that was filmed in HDR at source, the visuals are on a different level of colour and brightness, it's fantastic.

What TV do you have?

I hear you. Is the cost to produce HDR content any different? Like is the family of tech involved in producing it and exhibiting it eventually going to be the standard?

So HDR is best exhibited through night/dark scenes?

I honestly don't know, but I presume it is the standard for A rated series and movies.

I've definitely noticed better visuals with HDR in dark scenes as the dark parts of the scene do not bleed into the light parts of the scene. But even bright scenes offer better visuals with regards to colour range and brightness when HDR is available.

I mentioned the game previously as what stood out when HDR was enabled, is how the oncoming car headlights are so bright while not ruining the scene around them, and the cat-eyes which have a twinkle in the darkness. It's a subtle visual improvement, but it's something you notice almost immediately.

Overall though, watching HDR movies/series on the various streaming platforms definitely gives them that extra pop

Thanks, I see it's HDR10+

This is important as there are so many different HDR "specs".
I actually don't think I have seen any HDR10+ content. I know the Chromecast with Google TV was certified HDR10+ earlier this year, buy not sure if Google has released an update to enable it yet.

Also, the only streaming providers I use that offer HDR10+ is Amazon Prime and YouTube.

My point was you get HDR TV's that are "HDR" and you get HDR TV's that are "HDR10". I would think there is a big difference between HDR and HDR10 never mind +.

Some people say they can't see a difference, maybe it's that? I don't know, just asking.

Well there isn’t a big difference, it’s all basically the same thing just that it evolves as newer content and tv models come out. Example hdr would be mastered at peak brightness of let’s say 500 nits, so hdr10 would be mastered at a higher bright peakiness of let’s say 1000nits.

Very technical maybe some guys can explain it better, but that’s just how I understand it, I could be wrong.

Without a side by side I wouldn’t notice the extra colour tones/shades unless it’s a scene meant to be ‘vivid’.
The contrast difference in darker scenes does make compression artifacts more identifiable though.

This video is probably the best I’ve seen for comparing the differences side by side with YouTube in HDR on one screen and SDR on another.

I think HDR is like good WiFi :

You have it running and eventually you 'forget' you have it. But - if you turn it off - you notice quite quickly that you had it and it definitely works.

It may be more effective with different content (mastered different) and different scenes, but it's still something (IMO) that you want

Yes Telkom LIT box made by SDMC, Tested this on all 3 of my Lit Boxes.
This is what i have done:

Just to add: The addon for KODI is the CastagnaIT add-on you can get from GitHub

So after kodi 19 is installed with the Netflix add-on successfully installed go to the Netflix add-on open it up
Go to add-on settings
Change to Expert mode
Go down to Expert
Scroll to ESN / Widevine settings and open
Click reset and the ESN will appear
Click on Change ESN
Change the NFANDROID2 to NFANDROID1 leave the rest and click OK
Make sure Widevine is on Disabled this will leave it on L1
Click Apply changes
and ok

Try playing a video on the add-on
Hi

Whenever I go to ESN/Widevine settings, it takes me back to Login, when I put username and password, it doesn't accept it, it says 'Authentication key'. I've been trying but still it doesn't work. I don't know what to do, please help.

Attached please find visual steps of what to do, if this doesnt work try:
Uninstalling KODI
Unplug the lit box
Reconnect the power
Make sure its connected to the internet
Reinstall KODI 19
Reinstall the Repo
and try the seps again.

Got hold of the Maverick. How do I test? I don't see Geekbench on app store?
It should be on the play store

Or download the apk from
https://m.apkpure.com/geekbench-5/com.primatelabs.geekbench5

and sideload it.

Thanks for the effort to bench the Maverick it would be interesting to see the results I think it has the new 905X2 chip in it but I might be mistaken.

On the playstore for the maverick when you search for geekbench a message appears saying it's not supported on this device.
