Telkom LTE Advanced tested in Parkview

R1,399 per month for 36 months = R50364

Think about that for a second... R50K for intertubes. :wtf:

think that will open some eyes hopefully.

but yes - aggressively showing people 4k youtube will definitely sell it.... until the first poor soul forgets their torrents on for a day ... or for that matter actually use it as a primary content delivery in his home (youtube/netflix etc automatically selecting best quality based on your line speed will drain that data so quick :O

PROFIT - customer has to buy even more GB's - for a nice 36 months.

Awesome. Blow through your cap in 5 hours. Ad thats not even at 112mpbs thats at the reduced 47mpbs.

What. Is. The. Point?

Wow. Much clever. Such insight.

I can also finish a tank of fuel in my car in 500km if I drive normally, or 180km if I speed.

and it cooks

Great, but it better be able to clean the house, do the dishes, wash and service dirt bikes, bath a Bengal tiger, bring beer on request and perform oral pleasures for that amount of cash for 3 years.

Till then my 4mb adsl running at 2mb will just have to do as 10mb seems a bridge to far for Telkom.

Be very careful when you do speed tests on an LTE network. Speed is calculated as bytes/time and on an LTE network one can go through hundreds of megabytes during the test. Ask me ;) I did some testing on a new tower her in Durban North.

They're coming at 16h00 today for a demo and 14 day trial.

My expectation is that this is a 150MB service, not an up to some number service.

But that price is ridiculous.

DO NOT SIGN ON ANY DOTTED LINE once the trial is finished say you are not interested in signing your life way only do month-to-month... Go with Go Big 120 prepaid

May as well have used words like "Much internet", "Such telkom, wow!" ...

I'm surprised to see the advice to not sign a contract in this puff-piece, but I second that - so stay away people, this is not worth it.

Geez, if I had known I could've written the article as a meme I wouldn't have gone to all that effort. Next time I'll just send Doge to drive around in a boiling hot car around Parkview to test 4K YouTube video streaming, uncached HD (and HD HFR) video streaming, single-threaded downloads, torrenting, and other stuff.

Indeed. Speedtest automagically sends larger files on faster connections to compensate for TCP's slow-start algorithm, I believe.

Are you implying some races generate more profit than others?

That's racist!

Hah! I was going to try and respond semi-intelligently, but your reply was much better :D

You are confusing me now.

I thought you are a racist if you ask who is paying for a sport star's public funeral?

It didn't work.

It connected at 3G and got about 3MB DL speed. The guy then 'forced' it to connect at 4G and got about 10MB DL. It then stopped working altogether.

He then hauled out the old LTE and that connected at about 11MB DL speed.

We tried upstairs and downstairs. Downstairs was better.

Ping was around 35ms. Which is 3 times worse than my ADSL.

He then went on about antenna but ultimately packed up his stuff muttering about a meeting with engineers.

It also seems that the special offer is only on until they sign up 300 users. He didn't have a clue where the base station was and wasn't a Telkom employee either.

Oh, well. I suppose I'll have to wait until Feb for the fibre.

Damn!!! No home should be paying more than a grand for internet access in my opinion.

Edit: per month

Hehehe! When it comes to Telkom's products, their history and modus operandi it's not such a bad idea. :D

I'm not attacking you, and we appreciate your efforts in this matter Jan, but let's not kid ourselves here about what we're really talking about.
Raising only the good points, and not addressing the real image of telkom is like saying Ebola is actually good because it makes a person lose weight.
