Telkom LTE network improvements within a week

try be more proactive here Telkom, instead of reactive.

if set limit alarms at 70% instead of 200%

Telkom should have planned better before rolling out their Lte offers so aggressively. The offers are very tempting but I am glad I did not fall for it. Vodacom might be more expensive but at least you get quality speeds in most parts of the country. I don't mind paying more for a better quality product.

I had a minor issue when i switched routers but that seems to have gone. No complaints on the speed so far and maybe i'm one of the fortunate ones. Hopefully they resolve the issues for those whoe are battling, their LTE is a life saver for those who can not get fixed line services or those who had degraded ADSL

IDIOTIC?
They pump millions in advertising LTE and come up with great data packages and are now surprised to be bombarded with data?
Re-Active??? Its a disgrace how telkom has wasted taxpayers money. ceo's should be charged for making reckless financial decisions.

Someone's upset, would you rather they stuck with dialup and not tried to push for newer tech?

Telkom doesn't get funding from government instead government is benefiting via Dividends, Telkom is sustainable on its own.

;)

Perhaps the "fact-police" would like to explain how -- 10Mbps is LTE speed

No amount of font, size or colour changing will change the fact that if something is delivered over LTE rather than 3G/2G/HSDPA then it is in fact LTE.

I can understand your expectation that LTE be faster than 3G/older tech and for the most part over 10MBps for LTE is actually faster than you would experience at an average 3G site with other factors at play being the same or similar.

Also understand that ever since this launched everybody and their dog has been trying to get it,Telkom tried to limit it to 50 customers per tower but go look on this site alone how many people have found ways to work around that limitation,so it's no wonder the towers got congested so quickly.

I've seen this happen with 3G in the past where at first I got 17Mbps download speeds and six months later as people in my area started using it my speed went down to 1mbps!

And where does the money come from that Gov invests in Telkom? Entirely from dividend profit?
When last did Telkom receive ANY funding from Government? Most definitely not since October 1991 (and even before that but I'm too lazy to find you a source - go do your own research).

"Telecommunications and Postal Services Minister Siyabonga Cwele was pleased that Telkom had performed steadily in the past four years, "especially given that there were suggestions that it be sold".

He said although the government would again receive a substantial dividend, which would go into the National Revenue Fund, "It is our view that we should start to reinvest a substantial amount in the rollout of a modern ICT infrastructure"."

If one looks at the Telkom shareholding: http://www.dtps.gov.za/portfolio-organisations/telkom/59-popular-topics-2.html , there are some clear under-performers and organs who are doing diddly squat in terms of their mandate and responsibility.

Where does the money come from to keep them propped up?...

By ensuring that Telkom remains their cash cow of course, and remains a monopoly as long as possible, by utilizing tricks such as mentioned in this article.

Telkom still a monopoly? Don't make me laugh. They have competition in virtually every market and before you say "but what about ADSL?", think about your statement. The FTTH providers are competing directly against Telkom's DSL market by cherrypicking the highest revenue generating suburbs and self-providing fibre or wireless solutions.

Most comments have been to the tune of "Telkom is a listed business, and Gov just get's dividends from their investment."

Well then, please show how a private listed company is allowed to operate, receiving share investment derived from taxpayer money, receive payments from state organs due to the hybrid investment/relationship structure ( http://www.infraco.co.za/CorpProfile/Document Library/Broadband Infraco Annual Report 2015.pdf ) and this same company enjoys monopolistic government protection?

I have numbered your links.

All other licensed operators compete directly with Telkom to provide services to State departments. There is no exclusivity or any regulation forcing absolutely anybody to use Telkom's products. Those days are long gone. Regarding share ownership everyone agrees that the sooner the State (and their investment arms) removes itself from the telecoms sector, the better.

(1) The proposed Telkom - BBI merger. Telkom does not want the merger. See (5) for the source.

(2) From 2005, based on the 2004/05 annual results? Seriously, did you read the article in full? What did you make of Sizwe Nxasana's respose?

Nxasana has a ready answer for accusations that Telkom bleeds the economy to achieve such numbers. He points out that profit growth easily outstripped revenue growth, pointing to a more efficient company. He says the company will be investing almost as much in new infrastructure this year as it is paying shareholders for last year, and that infrastructure will benefit the entire country. And he takes exception to the suggestion that current shareholders are benefiting from taxpayer money invested in Telkom over past decades.

“Look at the time we listed. It was just before the Iraq war. There were problems all over the equity markets with the likes of Enron and investors were being very careful. We listed at what was a fair price and our investors took that risk; it could just as easily have gone the other way. Now they are receiving the rewards [for their risk].”

And a LOT has changed since then...

(3) 2014 Interview with Arthur Goldstuck regarding ALL operators and their LTE plans... I don't quite see how this fits into your narrative. If it is about spectrum then how is that Telkom's fault? Point to ICASA.

(4) Same link as (3)

(5) The source for (1). How can it receive protection while telling "government" to get stuffed? What protection are you referring to?
