Telkom makes remote use almost impossible.

Right so a client of ours setup a nice new CCTV system and we rigged up port forwarding and all that good stuff for him. His home as a massive line 100mbs/up 100mbs/down. The ISP helped him to setup port forwarding so that he can look after his place while at office.

At his office he has a Vodacom LTE connection and he can connect to his CCTV system no problem at all.

At his satellite office he has a Telkom line. He cannot connect to his CCTV and even if it connects it is unusable. So we contacted Telkom but they don't want to give us a clear answer if they are throttling the connection or not.

We tried a few other SIM cards but only Vodacom allowed for a smooth connection.

So if you are thinking of running a home CCTV system you will not have joy with Telkom on the client side it will not connect even if the speed is really good. this is a BIG problem actually as may of our clients expect us to be able to remote in.

Also of note we have trouble to remote in using Telkom as well. Specially if the server is locally hosted. This goes for FTP servers as well. It is really a big problem.

Obviously doesn't have good signal, far from tower.

Whats the signal and noise readings?

Use the network you get the best reception, for your Client it is obviously Vodacom.

No the Telkom speed was over 90down and 10up it should have worked in all honesty the ping was like 19 or something really good connection hence why he uses telkom but when we tested with our telkom we had the same problem. MTN worked well i have to say.

Have had similar problem with some of our users on MTN data sims.

Either wont connect to office SSL VPN or if connects there is no throughput.

Swapping data sim in laptop to Vodacom works 100%.

See this issue in Fishhoek, Parklands, Durbanville and other random locations so I dont think it is cell tower / reception specific.

MTN refuses to acknowledge the issue so we will be moving all our data contracts over to Vodacom as clearly they shape certain protocols/ports. (Have tried different ports so protocol most likely)
