Telkom: massive strategy shift coming

Mr Came knows what he's talking about. Mr Kruger, on the other hand, is hopelessly optimistic, to the detriment of the SA citizens.

Kruger said that the ministry has some options for Telkom and one recommendation – but he couldn’t elaborate on what these were

FSMS maybe? - Forked Stick Message Service :D

If Telkom does not at least half the price of internet access they will be history by 2020. The private sector is catching up rather quickly and by the time Telkom wakes up (if ever) nobody will need or want them for internet access. CellC is a prime example of just that.

Everytime Telkom "shifts" we are getting further & further behind.

The following names does not inspire any confidence at all :

We will see a massive turn-around in Telkom’s strategy and roll-out plans in the next few months, according to Roy Kruger, the technical advisor to minister of communications, Dina Pule.

Any "massive turn-around's" improperly planned, will lead to disaster.

It takes 15 years of talk shops , policies, speeches, conferences and what not for the process of consumers having a fixed line alternative to Telkom via LLU to be killed off. Now Telkom want to introduce a massive strategy shift using tax payers money in 1 month to 2 month that will impact the whole South Africa without any input from outside about it.

Kruger has not showered himself with kudo's of late.

So I would trust Richard Came's opinion over his any day of the week.

Now if Dick is also another name for Richard, then he has got a very unfortunate name:D

A: Let the private sector handle it
B: Put measures in place to combat price fixing
C: Remove the excessive licensing fees (the proceeds of which has done nothing for rural South Africans or BEE anyway) *
D: Remove the excessive restrictions of using governmentally owned back haul and last mile infrastructure *

*It can of course not be free. Make sure the costs for the service providers is such that it provides a sustainable income that can be used to developed the network further at a steady pace - It's obviously not going to cover the whole of SA overnight. Keep it within reason.
