Telkom may keep its power

What the hell is the point of the new sno if not a price war.
We have been waiting all this time in hope of a price war (ie.Competition) and some moron opens his stupid mouth and says he doesn’t think it would be a good idea for the new SNO to get into a price war with Telkom.
No wonder telkom decided to deploy this whole 1 November thing; they obviously know that they have nothing to worry about so they might as well screw us again.
For a second there it looked as though telkom had a slight concern.
It makes me sick thinking about these idiots who are given this type of power just to abuse the country, the system and us.
Do they really think we are that stupid, that we can't see what direction this looks to be heading in (mtn, vodacom, cell c).
O well here we go again.

It is our own fault that there was no price war with the cellular operators.
If the SNO is even *slightly* cheaper, and a lot of people move to it, then Telkom will be forced to respond. If only a small amount of people move across, then Telkom will be justified in thinking that price is not the most important factor (Just as Voda and MTN are today)

agreed, it is our fault and they are taking full advantage of that.
I think that we were naive in thinking that 3 cellular operators would bring in some competition without intervention.
Instead they just got into bed together and took.... and are still taking us for a ride.
Hopefully we have all wised up to this and can do something about it from the start or should I say before it starts.

But that is the same as with Telkom ADSL, ok fair enough people would like to have ADSL and all, but if you think about it, the people that are applying for it are in a way accepting the expensive price of it!!!
What should be done is no one should apply for it on principal of the price and maybe Telscum will realise ok the price is too high.
Also EVERYONE who has ADSL should cancel the subscription and see how Telkom reacts to that.

Just be prepared to change over if there is even the slightest decrease in price. Be willing to deal with the price of doing this (letting everyone know your new number, etc) and all the hassle. And be willing to switch back to telkom when they decrease. (Notice the price war that the ISP's had. Similar story, but with less pain involved)

The only way that I can see a price war happening is to appoint a real business person who realizes that the company that they are up against is the competition and the enemy and they need to push and do everything possible to beat the enemy.......NOT get buddy buddy and have a chat on the phone about their great new strategy ideas.(mtn & vodacom).
We don't need some stupid fruitbat stating that he doesn’t think it would be a good idea for the new SNO to get into a price war with Telkom.
From what we are hearing it seems as though the new SNO is going to follow in telkoms footsteps and mtn and vodacom for that matter.

dudaroo : Exactly. If everyone switched to Sentech (despite it being a worse service), telkom would have responded. But we didn't, justifying Telkom's prices (to an extent)

the problem with switching to sentech if I am correct is that sentech is not realy competition for telkom.
At the end of the day sentech will still be paying telkom for bandwith and that then makes sentech in a way part of telkom, so telkom still wins.
Correct me if I am wrong.

newdeal : kinda ya. But there would be competition on the user side (not so much on the ISP side) But I see Sentech are one of the partners in the eassy cable, so that will change

newdeal yes they would ultimately be paying Telscum for the bandwidth, but if everyone migrated to Sentech, then Telscum would have to respond, as then they would have spent all that money upgrading their exchanges and no one would be utilising the equipment.

I read an interesting article regarding skype and BT.
What made this article interesting is BT's attitude towards competition and the only way that we are ever going to get whats owed to us is when this type of attitude is ENFORCED on the likes of the new SNO, Telkom, Mtn, Vodacom, cell c, DSTV and so on.
The link to the article is here....

No matter how u took at it, Telkom will still win.

Telkom OWNS international backbone.
Telkom OWNS Public Switch Telephone Network.

The SNO openly admitted that they would have to use Telkom's infrastructure while their own is being built.

In occordance with the Telecoms Act of 96, the minute that Eskom builds any infrastructure, Telkom has ACCESS to it.

Thats right.
Any type of service offered will benefit telkom in someway or another no matter what.
What realy gets to me is that telkom in defence will use setech and iburst as a way of saying that there is competition out there.
Do they think we are all that stupid?
It's an insult!

Will all due respect, people dont know how to band together, all they know what to do is to bitch and moan about everything and do absolutely nothing about it.

I bet that a lot if not most of the people here who are complaining about the price, have adsl ??? I agree, the stand would be to not buy it, or if you do have it, cancel it !!! Thats not going to happen. So we can all just bend over and take it.

I know I am being very negative now as well, but hey, we live in a corrupt country where the voice of the people are never heard. Take the lotto for example, the only people that are benefitting are the people who play it, what is being done with the money that is supposed to be looking after the charities, absolutley F#*^@ all !!!

I have said that SO many times before! Check my post history for proof. Telkom should have been broken up into little pieces and IMO still should be broken up. Legislation is restricting new entries to the market rather than cost. It is ABSURD!
