Telkom may look at buying Cell C

Ah, now that could be real competition for Vodacom and MTN ..... but Telkom roams on MTN's network and then it will change to CellC? No. No. No.

How about Telkom focuses on staff retention and hiring new staff? Their service levels have dropped to beyond pathetic again, just when they were starting to get on the right track a couple of years back...

But they have an infrastructure sharing deal with MTN?

oh and:

could be a good thing

This.

Well they have the infrastructure to supply all Cell C towers with high speed backbone capacity in a short space of time and then the network would really fly,all they would have to do is consolidate a bit in quieter areas and fill in the blanks, their network could easily be stronger than Vodacom and MTn's in a very short space of time.

Really this deal would make sense for everybody, consumers win because we will still have real competition in the market that is stronger than Cell C and Telkom mobile separate,Telkom would gain 20 Million subscribers and some tower infrastructure which is no joke.

CellC roams on MTN? Maybe combined they can be big enough on their own. Combined they will be proper competition to the big 2, as long as they retain enough senior CellC people to teach them how to do business in the 21st century.

In this small rural town, there is just one Telkom/Cell C tower. Cell C uses already Telkom for the backhaul.
For consumers this would make a lot of sense.
But rather have the more commercially minded Cell C staff take care of customers. There is still a lingering civil service attitude with some Telkom employees.
Telkom should chose cooperate with MTN or take over Cell C. They clearly cannot do both.

No Telkom should utilise Cell C's customer service, pricing structures, stores, hell maybe even their brand in mobile since its better than Telkom mobiles brand etc,Telkom would bring the infrastructure to the table which is the only weak point of Cell C's at the moment because they have much much stronger back haul than Cell C or even Vodacom and MTN for that matter. They would have additional spectrum available and could probably provide LTE in more universally accepted bands rather than the current one which isn't compatible with most phones anyway..The positives are endless really.

Just a matter/question of do they have deep enough pockets to buy Cell C?

They can simply ask for loan gurantee from state just like other SOE's :D

I would say they should do away with the Cell C brand. Too many bad memories. I still horrific flashbacks when I drive past the Cell C headoffice on the highway. Kind of like a panic attack.

:p

Does this mean I would get to ditch my dual sim smartphone?:):p
*Data-TM and Voice-Cell C*

Well this is business rather than your personal gripe or opinion of Cell C and 20 million people disagree with you vs maybe 2 million that agree with you(those that are on Telkom mobile). Its a no brainer really which is the stronger brand and by at least 10 fold at that.:)
