Telkom Media aims for interactive TV

Telkom does realise we only have ADSL in SA right?

Telkom Media said it would make pay-television affordable to nearly 40% of South Africans.

How can they make pay-television affordable to 40% of South Africans if only 10% can afford a telephone line and 0,5% can afford ADSL?

TELKOM STOP TALKING ****.

With a 3gb cap? Just how on earth do they plann on doing it?

Do 40% of South Africans even pay their TV licence?

I think they'll have to revise their whole broadband policy if the want to make IPTV work. With their current model it's only going to end up in disaster

Or

It will be an awesome service completely funded through advertising, in a short 2 years, resulting in every household and community gathering point having a free 4MB ADSL line that is only 50% utilised for the broadcast.

BWAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. LMAO. PIMP.

It is all very exciting, but with current state of broadband in SA, totally unbelievable.

IPTV is based on ADSL2+ and up.

Your Internet cap has nothing to do with your IPTV.

Picture the music that is played during buffering ...
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK

Stop being so negative. :D (just kidding)

And the content will probably be the biggest load of cr@p.

Probably true.

Oh well guys. It looks like we'll just have to wait and see.

I don't understand that you can still be an optimist to the degree that you are, but it doesn't really matter.

IPTV is based on ADSL2+ and up.

I don't understand what your point here is.

Your Internet cap has nothing to do with your IPTV.

I can't believe this one. From my limited knowledge of phone line and fibre usage, if you separate international and national broadband connectivity, then IPTV has very much to do with the same infrastructure your broadband uses for national connectivity.

That is what we do here on MyAdsl. :D .... :( .....

In terms of the cap, I think they would have to exclude IPTV data usage.
Either that, or they make local uncapped again (If only)

IPTV runs on it's own network and is not connected to the Internet. It uses the same protocol as the Internet but has nothing to do with it. This way, they are able to guaranty quality of service.
