IPTV is not a web application. It is only based on the "Internet Protocol".
Think cable TV.
 
Assuming it gets a licence, Telkom Media will sell a basic bouquet of satellite channels for less than 100 rand a month -- well below the 199 rand DStv charges for its most basic package and the 440 rand at which it offers its main 55-channel offering.

Actually, you'll need an Xbox 360 ;) They're using the MS IPTV platform.

We've discussed this before, and Telkom has been trialling this for over a year now. IPTV was the reason they rolled out hte "trial" 4MBps service in the first place. IPTV runs over your ADSL connection and will have to run "in parallel". I suspect Telkom may force you to take a preconfigured router shaped to prioritise IPTV, but it's all speculation, and yeah, I'd worry about the content.

Personally I'm very excited about the product, I hope it lives up to expectations.

What expectations? This is telkom, remember, nobody has any expectations.

Anyhow, judging by how in tune telkom is with its customers, I wouldnt want to watch it anyway. I don't want SABC 3 on my lcd monitor.

Yes thats what we have been doing for many many many many many years!!!
We are quite good at it now. :p

As for IPTV if I think about it logically and from a realistic point of view, Telkom is just going to charge an exhorbitant fee once again or find some other way for us to pay through our noses for it..wonderful service as it is
 
40% of what? ADSL users? cant be of south africa as i doubt 40% own a phone line ;)

That is what I was trying to get at. Sharing infrastructure. Now to where exactly does the sharing go? Only to the street? DSLAM? Inside Telkom?
