Hi Guys,

So I made a deal with the devil and signed a 24 month contract with Telkom Mobile. I am now soooo over their lack of service and just general incompetence that I would like to buy my way out of this contract. So it started in Nov 2016, so ending in Nov 2018. What kind of cancellation fee is reasonable (I have not received any invoice as yet, as they are struggling to even do this for me). Surely I should only be charged for the remainder of the device and not the airtime and data as well.

Thanks for any advice and don't worry I already feel bad about it, so don't laugh! Rather learn from my experience and stay the hell away!

Ouch buddy, lol. I've never ever tried cancelling a contract that early ... with Vodacom and MTN, you practically end up paying what feels like the full rate. It's always been so painful I've never bit the bullet on it.

Yeah I know right! But I just cannot deal with their incompetence anymore! I would rather buy myself out of this hell hole now!

Telkom early contract cancellation

Telkom said it requires subscribers to give a 20-business day written contract termination notice.

“The 20 business days written notice rule is within the CPA guidelines,” said Telkom.

It then uses the following formula to calculate the early termination fee:

R800 + Device Subsidy × months remaining + bill for outstanding usage

“We do not factor in the service fee for the remainder of the contract, as customers should not have to pay for the balance of the service that they are not going to use.”

Any luck with this Type RSA?

Have a friend in a similar situation and telkom quoted him basically the remainder of the whole contract.

What sort of contract did you take out? If telkom coverage is bad, switch to MTN that should improve your service.

If the signal service is totally bad, log it with telkom and if they cant improve their service, you can request a termination of contract without penalty

A friend of mine did this and ended up cancelling his contract without penalty. aim is to make show they cant provide u decent service
