Telkom Mobile cracks 2 million subscribers

Nice,although to be honest I'm surprised they haven't eaten more into the big two networks subscriber base already since they like Cell C offer much better deals.

South Africans are sometimes too imprinted by the brand they already subscribe to.People need to learn to trust other brands also they need to learn how not to be enticed into the early upgrade trap but rather wait that extra few months and then jump ship to whoever gives you the best deal.

The only advice I ever give somebody before they change networks is simple really,try that network on prepaid in the areas that you frequent for a month or two just to be sure that you can live with their reception in your areas.That way you'll never have any regrets halfway through the contract!

Agreed, I had two buddies on MTN who are still on MTN though TM actually offered better pricing. They stay on MTN cause well they are afraid of jumping ship. My dad is the same

This news is bittersweet for me since they had to focus less resources on fixed lines to achieve this, which is probably the reason why I'm still stuck on 4mbps. But great for mobile I suppose.

The reason they had to "focus"/spend less was that Telkom lost +R10b on Nigeria/Multics.

That +R10b should have been spent on ADSL in ZA.

I love telkom mobile. My bill reduce from R500+ to R110 in voice cost. I use R80pm for unlimited TM to TM calls and R30 unlimited calls to one telkom number.

Good, but still a long way to go before the big 2 really feel it .
Last I heard, vodascum had 30 million, which is 29.5 million more than they deserve

I got 2 TM contract's, and when I upgraded those 2, I had to fight with their useless staff. The one phone were dead for 4 days, sim swop story, and the second one waited 2 weeks for a normal S4 mini, only to hear after the big fight, they haven't got the correct color. So the same problems as mtn and voda, but better deals to pull you.

The only reason they are getting these amounts of people is that they force them to move away from landlines to 8TA wireless phones. If you move into certain neighbourhoods and apply for a phone line they refuse you a line, mainly using cable theft as the excuse, and offer you the 8TA wireless phone at the same costs as a landline.

Wil also be jumping ship from Voda at end of the month to Telkom, looking forward to saving a good couple of Randelas per month

I just wish they would sort out the network in the Green Point area in Cape Town - other than that I have been pretty happy with them too.

Have you Notified them in writing.
Advise of the location you are having problems at.

I clearly advised them where they could put up antennae and thinking they will never do it

6 Months later my 3G signal shot up and I am happy with my 60 + 60 for R1800.

Advise them via the forum via their website and their call centre.

Their network is fantastic in Durban almost everywhere you drive they have coverage and even with a single bar everything works well.

Word is out they are revising pricing and contracts after December

Agreed they could have had 5000 Towers up and Lovely LTE coverage including fibre to the Home to replace ADSL.

The value from their contracts are great. I have the 10gb+10gb package and an s3 mini on 100 minutes + 5gb package. All of that for R368, I don't think that any other network could come near to that.

Sadly network quality is getting bad in PE. Video streaming hardly works, and lately even browsing is difficult. The amaount of data is great, but I wish I could use it better.

I just read a few articles surrounding Telkom, Multi-Links and Helios as I wasn't really paying attention at the time. It's left me feeling sick and disgusted .
