Telkom Mobile on GSM!

Telkom Mobile is now available as a GSM network. Far as I know to date Telkom users cannot roam on MTN as yet.

Telkom GSM uses 1800MHz with Edge internet access also. Thou coverage is very low is you moving around.

Umhlanga - Gateway - 3G / 2G on your Mobile Phone
Pavilion - Westville - 3G / 2G on your Mobile Phone
Galleria - TOTI - 3G / 2G on your Mobile Phone
Springfield Park - 3G / 2G on your Mobile Phone
Durban Central - Musgrave - 3G / 2G on your Mobile Phone
King-Shaka Airport - End of August - 3G / 2G on your Mobile Phone
Chatsworth Centre - 3G / 2G on your Mobile Phone

Both Networks appears under SA 02 2G/3G

Which i think is bloody good for a network that has not even launched Yet.

TesTs must be done outside the Building preferably from a high point.

Not for getting Mt Edgecomber , Thou my quality of service has dropped. I phoned and told them,they said its testing...yaa

• Signal has dropped : better GSM than 3G
• Disconnecting alot
• Speed has dropped (Im using a HSPA+ device and getting +/- 1Mb) on 4 out 5 bars

I spoke to someone at the telkom office here yesterday. Apparently telkom mobile will be launched nationally on 01 September. I was told to "Watch the press for more info"...

Well the GSM network seems to be switched off all over. Thou the 3G Network speeds have picked up at last! (11 August)

The dam GSM is back again...my speeds have gone mad now!

Vodacom SA 2G
Vodacom SA 3G
MTN SA 2G
MTN SA 3G
Cell C 2G

Notice which one is missing? And they launched here already!!!!

From my little phone I can see the following networks:
Telkom SA 2G
Telkom SA 3G
Vodacom SA 2G
Vodacom SA 3G
MTN SA 2G
MTN SA 3G
Cell C 2G

Notice which one is missing? And they launched here already!!!!

Cell-C @ 900mhz Umts - Most older 3G phones are not UMTS 900 capable.

However ALL 3G phones coming into the country from next Jan will be multiband.
Simply because VodaCom & MTN are also rolling out UMTS 900mhz as well right now.

So things will get better in a years Time.

What you see there is 3G @ 2100mhz.
