Telkom Mobile roaming on Vodacom

i eventually just cancelled my Telkom contract and went back to MTN, since then zero issues and proper coverage, my phone always has full signal 4G
+1 submitting cancelation tomorrow for two LTE contracts.
What a nightmare this has become.

anyone with no service at today ?

Since setting my phone network to Automatic I've noticed many parts of CPT only has Edge cover on Telkom. WTF

This is getting to become a real problem. Even when selecting TelkomSA manually, my phone still wasn't to connect to TelkomSA-R.

I cannot make or receive any calls when it's on TelkomSA-R. It keeps on saying not registered on network when I try to make a call.

This is on a Samsung galaxy S10+.

Edit: This is in Pinelands, Cape Town.

Since Telkom switched to Vodacom as a network partner, my phone has become a real pain in the butt.

Internet connections drop every few seconds and my battery life seems to have halved almost.

I use Apple Car play - and that has become unusable now, because on 12km commute across Joburg, the connection must drop 20-30 times! Each time the connection drops, Apple Car play disconnects from the car system, so Waze stops, music stops, phone calls drop etc.

It's a pretty crappy experience all round!

So it looks like I'll have to get a contract with a service provider who does not do that?

WhatsApp calls drop much more frequently as well.

I ended up changing my network connection settings to "2g only" just to be able to make and receive phone calls which means that my Internet connection is not usable now. There's no roaming in 2g only mode.

S***. I was trying to figure out why my battery life has been worse for the last few weeks. I thought it was something I installed but could never figure it out. Now I know. F***ing Telkom.

I’m on a mountain so signal is a little dodgy but still bearable. About a kilometer away totally different picture.

I'm on an iPhone x and no matter where I'm at in Gauteng I keep getting connecting errors or if I am connected I can't download any pictures off Whatsapp or Instagram .... it is definitely the network because when I'm on WiFi there is no issue

I am losing my patience here. now calls don't even go through to my phone and keep going to voicemail despite LTE coverage.

please @rpm this is becoming a serious problem which I'm sure I'm not the only one. This will be great journalism for your team

Got a Telkom Mobile data sim card with my Home Unlimited package and since late last month I cannot connect to the internet with it. Just says No Internet Access.

When I log into my router it says "profile invalid contact your service provider"

After 3 long calls to Telkom they've finally accepted that is it probably related to the roaming switch over issue.

Here's a weird one for you.

At my office, my TelkomSA signal is very bad and it switches over to TelkomSA-R. I then have the same problem as you. No calls or sms's comes through and I can't make calls or send sms's. I keep getting an error "not registered with network"

If I manually scan the networks and select vodacom, I can connect and make and receive calls. So I roam directly on vodacom to be able to make and receive calls. Signal is full whereas TelkomSA-R is half. Only problem with this is that my data is stuck on edge. Fortunately I have decent WiFi at work for data.

It's so bad now that I cannot receive calls from the guard house when at home ... despite there being reception. This broken service offering from Telkom is really affecting the once simple basic things in my life

Try selecting vodacom directly from the list of networks when you do a manual scan.

Back in the office and forced to manually roam on vodacom on order to make use of my phone.

I hande a dual sim phone and the second sim is set to automatic search mode and connected to TelkomSA-R with less signal strength than roaming directly on vodacom. Both sim cards are Telkom.

Sim card status for sim 1 and sim 2.

Sim 1 connected directly to vodacom in manual network selection mode and roaming fine. Data is limited to edge but calls are working fine.

Sim 2 connected to TelkomSA-R on automatic network selection mode. No data connectivity and no incoming or outgoing phone calls can connect and even though its registered, everyone a call is made i get an error saying "not registered on network"

Not sure if this is a vodacom or Telkom problem or if vodacom is purposefully sabotaging the Telkom connection.

@rpm we need a better article on what's happening with the new roaming system between Telkom and vodacom. The call centre agents have no clue on how to fix this mess.

I don't think Vodacom is complaining about everyone from Telkom roaming off their network despite a strong Telkom signal.

More money.
