Telkom Mobile roaming on Vodacom

Same here. MTN roaming disabled today in this small rural town. Had to manually select VC, despite the message that the VC network was "forbidden".
It worked despite this, and now it connects also when you select automatic network selection.

Won't work if you select Vodacom. Telkom will be listed 2 times. TelkomSA or Telkom SA, TelkomSA -R, 65505

Sucks. I'm in a crazy remote spot and had pretty decent connection on mtn roaming. Can't get any signal whatsoever now :mad:

This is what I get when searching for networks. Trying to connect to the Telkom one fails, as do Vodacom (both). Anyone have a suggestion to get me back online? Screenshot_20190628_165218_com.android.phone.jpeg

Set it to Automatic and turn your phone on and off

At the Gautrain station, no signal at all so got sent to a Voda tower where Data doesn’t work.

Signal is kak in the CBD also now.

Anyone know if Cell C is actually decent or if I’ll struggle as well there?
 
MTN roaming, you are going to be sorely missed

If you are seeing Vodacom in a network scan and no 65505 or TelkomSA-R, this means the Vodacom base stations in your area, have not yet been configured to allow Telkom roaming

Thanks. I guess that means it is beyond my being able to do something about it. Heading back to civilisation again at the end of the weekend so not too big of a train smash (yet). I don't get why VC /telkom haven't activated ALL vodacom towers yet. Isn't the point of roaming to have telkom signal where they don't have their own coverage?

Don't go there unless you stay in a area that does not do Cellc coverage then you know it will roam on MTN but in towns and cities where Cellc does have coverage it's horrible. Calls dropping incoming calls going to voicemail while you have full signal data speeds so slow you want to puke anf rhat on 4G+.

From my understanding, and I could be wrong, don't quote me.
Each group of towers in a specific area has what is called a home locator, now known as a Node B.
Which manages the group of towers configurations and various other aspects of the networks functions.
Looks like Vodacom have forgotten a few areas, or are still busy rolling out this new configuration in stages, area by area.

Sounds like a mammoth undertaking.
 
Lots of Telkom data, only roaming. Have always had Telkom reception, for some reason my phone stays on vodacom now. So I can't use my data.
 
Did anyone else lose MTN roaming? I'm in the KZN Midlands and can't get onto MTN anymore. I am able to roam on Vodacom though.

Looks to me like they have forgotten to do 2G on more than 1 tomorrow. Can see telkom-R at 3G, but only Vodacom at 2G...

This is a problem for M2M/IOT stuff!

Anyone got any.susbstance here? Or anyone from Telkom even aware?

Spoke to people at stores and phone and they don't have a clue... (Switch to roaming.... etc.). The problem is that Vodacom towers appear to not be giving reliable connections / can connect, but no data is available (despite having it)
