Telkom Mobile roaming on Vodacom

So essentially, from 1 December, I won't be able to tell when I'm actually using Vodacom's network but there should be fewer dropped calls and fewer times when I switch to roaming and have no signal at all? Like in most malls...
It's not going to change overnight

Telkom currently has a roaming agreement with MTN which expires in June 2019. The company will conduct a phased transition from the current roaming agreement, which will be concluded by the end of the contract period.

I really doubt the new Vodacom sharing has been implemented.
I have spoken to a few friends in major cities , MTN remains the automatic selected network of choice where poor / no TM coverage is found.

The obvious solution is to buy a PAYG Telkom SIM and test it.

If the new roaming agreement is seamless you're not going to be aware that you're even using a Vodacom tower.
Yeah would be nice to skip that step but that's what I'd need to do. And it needs to be a "Telkom data" SIM too.

You can load a SmartBroadband Wireless Prepaid bundle onto a PAYG sim - it's a LTE bundle that is Telkom only.

You can also get a tm sim and load an inexpensive Mo'nice Telkom only bundle on it.

It will be worth getting a PAYG telkom sim card now , cant wait to test this out

Reviving this thread , anyone noticed TM signal in areas which never had coverage previously.

Based on my experience , seems that the Vodacom roaming agreement has not kicked in yet.

doesn't look like it either, ive noticed some testing every now and again but MTN still more preferred

Was wondering about the roaming. I'm heading to an area for holiday which traditionally has no coverage for CellC / MTN / Telkom Mobile, and only Vodacom.

I have an existing Telkom PAYG sim but otherwise I need to get a Vodacom one (to have a bit of data)?

I thought these were only available if you are already on SmartBroadband contract? According to this: https://secure.telkom.co.za/today/shop/plan/smartbroadband-wireless-prepaid/

So we live in Cape Town and are on Telkom freeMe family. All our multi-sims work fine in Cape Town. As soon as we leave the area, the 3G/4G goes to roaming and doesnt work at all. Doesn't matter what phone the SIM is in.

Any ideas?

Check the last line of the screenshot you posted :) It's available to prepaid users. I have it on a number of phones.

Also, the data now lasts for 61 days.

Have you enabled roaming? Set network to 3G and MTN when out of town.

I haven't enabled roaming. Is that not the kind of roaming you need to use when in a foreign land? Where its like R1000/MB?

Yes, it's the same kind of roaming, but at no extra charges for roaming on MTN besides having data that can roam. You are unlikely to have an issue except if you often go very close to SAs land borders.

Ah ok. And the 30GB that comes with the package, is that 30GB all network data or is there a limit to the amount of this roaming data that you can use? Can't seem to find the info on the Telkom site...
