Telkom Mobile Speed, Disconnections & Coverage Problems – click here first!

Has anyone recently experienced "out of bundle" error even though there is data on an LTE sim?
I had to wait for today the 1st to be able to say this.

I have logged MULTIPLE calls with Telkom Mobile. I have been to the shops as well. NOTHING no results. It used to work fine.

NONE of my bundles work as soon as I use the data of my all-networks bundle

Not my social WhatsApp and Telegram bundle and not my 20Gb promo data or the other 4GB of data either.

Whats the point of having all these bundles if you cannot use them?

Constantly brings up the OO bundle webpage.

I bet you top dollar the system taking my money won't be down...

EDIT:

Let's also add that I have done the following:

Ensured roaming is switched off.
Connected to Telkom-Monate network

I can make phone calls and I have FULL LTE 4G+ signal according to my phone.

Just will never register correctly on the network. This happens everywhere. Not a coverage problem I tested multiple regions in Cape Town and the West coast

Same. Struggled immensely to load a data bundle. Had to take out sim and use USSD as last resort

They (both Telkom & Axxess) seem to have finally resolved the data usage checks.

At least, when I last checked, last night.

I've little doubt these issues will return again, probably quite soon.

I'm busy testing the Telkom network with a prepaid SIM before ordering the 2TB deal via Afrihost. Couldn't access the onnet.telkom.co.za site through which I usually buy bundles through since the router I have doesn't support USSD commands. Since Friday it showed as being down for maintenance and that they are making it "better"

Telkom's various portals leave a lot to be desired, as the saying goes.

Their website one log's into, possibly what you've been trying(?) often goes in a loop so it returns back to the login page - only once each time - after putting in email and password ; has been that way for years, because I used to have to login to various accounts at one stage, for work, and it was Irritating as hell.

They also have 2 Android apps, neither of which I could login to with my details, last times I checked a few months ago.

The one worked temporarily, so they might get them right by the 22nd century.

Indeed. I haven't registered an account with them, so normally use the facility where you see usage on Onnetsecure without logging in based on the SIM. This didn't work since Friday. It seems to be back up now.

For the past week, I've been experiencing regular LTE outages , and by regular I mean the connection goes down every 5 minutes or so for 3-4 minutes. Funny thing is, this does not happen during loadshedding. For the 2 hours or so that power is down, the LTE connection is perfectly stable. Has anyone else experienced this?

I have 3 different SIMs in 3 different devices (2 routers and a cell phone), and all 3 go down at the same time. This is a huge headache, since I depend on internet for WFH.

Only experienced similarly once recently with Telkom LTE - was last night around 1h10 - 1h30 am it went out, then connection returned as if nothing had happened.

I wasn't relying on it for anything major, then, because was watching DStv.

Almost as if it's shut down (at the tower?) for some minor maintenance.

Been thinking, and the most likely scenario I can think of, is that the towers around me don't support LTE, but the router tries to connect to the tower with the strongest signal, so no LTE. During loadshedding, the surrounding towers go down, and the router connects to a tower further away that supports LTE. So, LTE during loadshedding, nothing after loadshedding. Best I can come up with.

Two Telkom LTE SIMs in 2 different B525's currently either won't connect or struggling to - load-shedding ended shortly after 6pm, so it's caused degraded Telkom service over time.

A few minutes after 6pm had 5 bars signal strength, for about half an hour, then over time went down to 3 then 2 bars.

Surely it should work the other way around ?

Used MTN mobile to post this.

Telkom LTE is perfect, other than when Eskom enters the fray with their power outages.

The tower you connect to is in an adjacent load shedding area.

Thanks for that ; if it's the one I think it is, then it's only about 250 metres away in a straight line (ie. unlevel ground in between, not to mention trees).

Possible, but yeah, one never knows really. Unless you sit and map out all the towers in the area, and that is a big shlep

Looks like Eskom will stop "terrorising" us, for a while anyway ... meaning full signal strength all the time ... (assuming no Telkom technical issues) ...

"POWER ALERT 1
Stage 1 loadshedding will be implemented at 16:00 – 24:00 this evening. Loadshedding will then be suspended as the system has sufficiently recovered."

We will enjoy it while it lasts.

At least they're consistent where I am - now that this loadshedding's been re-implemented, it still takes exactly 2,25 hours for full LTE signal to return (5 bars on router).

I've reported it to them on Twitter, but they just come back with nonsensical replies.

MTN has full signal strength the minute power's restored, but for now sticking with Telkom due to price / data cost ratio on month to month.

And the fact it's not pure fixed, like MTN is.

Since around Wednesday morning this week, my Telkom LTE-A connectivity on a Huawei B525 router has taken a massive speed slowdown as far as upload speeds go - it seems to be permanently stuck on 0.08 Mbps - whilst my download speeds are between about 8.5 Mbps to 12.5 Mbps.

Every time I try & post pictures - either on social media platforms, or here on MyBB, they timeout with an error message & fail to upload.

Only if I open another web-page at the same time does posting any picture sometimes complete successfully whilst the other webpage is still busy loading in the background.

Any suggestions as to how to resolve this will be appreciated - rebooting the router doesn't help at all (I am in East London & I am using Windows 11 Enterprise & Google Chrome 104).

Still good for me but, I'm not in East London. :)

Ping: 44ms
Download: 34.44Mbps
Upload: 19.6Mbps

Have you logged into the router yet - then "Network Settings", "Mobile Network Searching", "Preferred Network Mode" - and tried changing from the current default ("Auto", perhaps) to the following :

"4G Only"
"B3 Only"
"B40 Only"
... and even "3G Only"

... speed testing each as you go along?

You might find a more optimal band / frequency to use, if only temporarily, while it hopefully sorts itself out, or they do.

It might be that you're being routed to JHB, having previously gone to CPT or vice versa.

I know that being in PE, our connection is better to CPT compared to JHB by about 20 ms (latency), along with higher speeds.

Try using this instead of any others to do speedtests (as it's Telkom related) and will immediately show you - at the bottom of the page - if default IP address your tower's connecting to (I stand to be corrected), is going to CPT or JHB :

Another suggestion is to send a PM incl personal details (which will be asked for by their bot as part of the process) to :

Might get them to look into it, but no guarantees.

Doesn't help you, unfortunately, but my Telkom LTE a few hours away is currently fine :

Hope you get sorted out soon @Ivan Leon
