Hi,

2 of My Vodacom Contracts are expiring (or expired already) this year.

In the last 10 years I have tried all your networks at my house several times.

This involves Purchasing (and ricaing) a simcard as well as a small amount of data for your network, going home and then trying to use that to connect to your network.
If I can connect I see what speeds I can get and inevitably I get terrible speeds (or no connection at all) then I renew my Vodacom contract for another 2 years.

All the past failures as well as the schep involved to get a new sim each time (the old sims are useless after 2 years of lying in a cupboard) has disheartened me to the point where I do not want to spend the money as well as time to yet again purchase sims and data to test.

So if you think getting a long term customer is worth it and think you can help me with getting a decent connection, here I am.

The main reason I want to move from Vodacom is cost (although the terrible website, unreliable warning sms's and lack of options with OOB also annoy me).

I budget around R400 per month for data for 1 computer, 1 tablet and 2 cellphones (I actually have 3 computers in the house, 2 of them have been mothballed due to data costs and to keep the OOB shark out of the house).
With my current vodacom contract that gives me around 7GB data, just enough to surf the internet and do computer and library updates.
I hit OOB again last night (Windows 10 updates). so suddenly my R400 has gone up by some undisclosed amount (vodacom's website can not tell me what) and I bought another 5GB worth of data so now my R400 budget is up to R690 +OOB.

Oh and I have the sms warnings sent to me. As usual I got complacent when I received a warning on Sunday that I only have 1.7GB left as I am used to the 1GB, 500MB and so on sms's vodacom usually send me and thought I may be able to make it to month end without buying another bundle.
The out of data sms I got was received by my phone last night at 8:30, My phone was on the far side of the house so I only noticed it an hour later.

Anyway, if any one of you can send me a test sim I would be grateful. Your coverage maps are not accurate.

I guess I will be keeping my 2.5K+ monthly contracts with Vodacom then.

For the person who cannot afford R0.99 SIM 2.5K contracts seem resonable. ;)

It's the time spent in uncaring cellular stores, and deluge of unsolicited calls and sms's after each RICA that bug me.

btw, I have done this 5 times already.
That is 15x rica, 15x simcards and 15times buying data to see if it will work or not.

Yoh ... after 15 test sims on the various networks surely you should have a idea of the network you prefer? :p

Would you like me to have a look at the lines and see if I can recommend a top up package? No more OOB or late warnings etc?

Let me know
Business? With Vodacom there is always OOB.

I am offering assistance to the OP. How about you do something useful also and send him one of your working Cell C sims. Then he can make a informed decision.
Its your business. Send him/her your own SIM.

Afrihost new mobile offering FTW, in a big way! Month to month, 79c/min per sec billing, cheep cheep data, the prepaid is also amazing 12 month data life.

Mtn network though but finally have 3G/Lte at home and just about everywhere it seems, Vodacom was Edge only at home(in a very built up area where Telkom mobile and cell c also had full speed 3G Hsdpa).

What business? I offered to look at his lines and recommend a package. He does not have to do the upgrade with me. Hell, others from the forum that have done a upgrade through me I did not even charge the R150.00 admin fee...which is pretty much the only money we get out of a upgrade deal.

You are the one that feels the need to always jump in and be a little snot when I try and help someone. So why dont you be helpful and send him a working Cell C sim (that you are going on about how great they are all the time and how sh*t Vodacom is). That is after all what he is asking for, but I cant assist with that you see ... as I dont have a Cell C sim. You obviously do.

So either send him a Cell C sim, or you have nothing to offer the OP in this thread and I suggest you stay out of it.

Sounds like a plan :)

There is no reason for me to upgrade the thing via a vodacom contract. I would get the same router I got 2 years ago and pay more for the same data.

Last time I tested MTN at home (about 2 years ago) I got edge :(

I don't try to intefere in your busines. You do business with Vodacom, fact is well known and there is nothing wrong with. However when you claim half truth, it is established practice on the forum to post another view. In response you suggest that I must handle over my own SIM to the OP who cannot afford R0.99 SIM. Besides of being completely inappropriate, your remarks about my behaviour of helping people is personal, sarcastic and even derisive, therefore it violated forum rules.

So I suggest you to back off, get some rest, it is a weekend time, look after your booming business during this weekend.

Come back on Monday and read again what you wrote, I hope you will get to the same point. :)

So nothing to say on topic.

Why are you playing here again?

Do you realize that 79c/min is normal MTN prepaid cost? Data on Axxess has rollover too.

I really don't get the excitement about these AH offers, except that it shows me that most people have really been overspending on their contracts/prepaid the last few years.

Well R99 for 1Gb data and R40 airtime P/m is cheapest on the market. Axxess's prepaid data only rolls over for 3 months and the kicker is you need a vanilla Mtn contract to bolt the data onto, so that's the fail right there.

Perhaps I'm wrong, find any products currently available that can beat the Afrihost offering?
