Telkom mucking it up again?

Since a few hours ping is terrible and download speed slow as well. When I try to conduct a speedtest the best server they connect me with is not in Cape Town and not in Jo'burg, no, it's in Gaborone!!!

WTF???

I'm in Cape Town, Table View area. Anyone having the same probs?

Yes, something seems to be up. I've been up since 2.30 this morning, and both local and international browsing seems extremely poor.
 
i'm guessing the problem is localized in your neck of the woods.
local & international speeds are fine this side of the city
 
I'm in Bellville and my ADSL has been poor in the evenings since last week Monday. I get pings of 600ms+ to local servers. I phoned Telkom twice already and they said I'm connecting fine and my download speed is fine. Then I need to try explain what latency is to a TI support person who didn't even start high school. FML!
 
Internet is always slow, rather download at night when the net is fast (well in my area my 384kbps download speed is 50kb/s, and during the day its 37kb/s)

On a 384 line it is impossible to get 50kb/s even if you were to remove the overhead the most you would get is 48kb, in reality you looking 42 at most. Just saying.

I get 40 and never below which is quite nice

I was having trouble with my mmo too, its crazy strange this morning it is much better, my ping is actually lower than its ever been and spikes only happen if i use browser and game at the same time.

Not sure if they were doing any sneaky work on our line but will see when i get home again if it was just a fluke.

Just glad I have my afrihost as spare account when telkom goes weird :D
