Telkom Never Ceases to Dissapoint!

So on 18 December 2009 I decided to report my ADSL line as my telephone noise became unbearable, internet disconeccted every 10 to 15 minutes and 4mb line degraded to a mere crawling 512kb.

First technitian phones asking if the line is fixed - Duh, the Fairies don't fix Telkom problems. Being told that it might be a line fault!

Second technitian phones 4 days later asking if the line is fixed - Uhh not yet can barely her the guy over the noise.... No reply back and problem persists

28 December the third guy phones sounds like a shouting match as neither tech or I can hear above the noise. Still no reply back after technitian arrives. Internet connection lasts 10 minutes if I'm lucky!!

Sunday 3 January techie no 4 works on the line and decides that a temporary line is needed. Totall connectivity of line is now lost and techie rides off into the sunset.

Since 10:00 on Sunday morning I had no service, no technitian arriving and no help from the telkom call centres. Now I know that it's Telkom and I should have known that they don't have bad service they have NO service. But i hoped that at least something could happen.

Maybe fairies should start fixing telephone lines..............

I had the same problem when I upgraded to 4meg. They told me it could be fixed but it would take up to two weeks. I couldn't handle the interference on the phone and intermittent internet so I told them not to worry. Unfortunately I really need that 4meg line so I might have to go through it all after all:(.

The service I received was excellent though. A techie came out and diagnosed the problem within 36 hours of the request:)
 
I had a similar problem about two years ago. It was on a 384k line though. It took ages for someone to fix it and it was fixed by putting in a temporary line. This line has been taken through the outside garage and has been hanging through there ever since. Everything works ... well until it starts raining.

I tried throughout the whole of last year to get the line fixed so that the temporary line can stop being in the way, but no luck. I spoke to some head guy here in Vanderbijlpark at Telkom and he said that beginning of January they will send out people to fix it. Well it's still beginning of January but I've got this feeling that it's just not going to happen.

At least the temporary line works most of the time, so may they come and install one for you soon.
 
Same Problem - and no techies have called

I have the same problem - line deteriorated, to the point where 1 get a connection for 2-3 seconds every few minutes (need to type quickly before it goes again).

No one from Telkom called. I called them repeatedly. Was 1st told there was no problem, then was told problem was fixed, then told whole area has the same problem, now told that they are waiting for "spares".


What a bunch of cretins !

Telkom should get RID of their dead wood -- useless techies.

I think that they have a large number of people where the job is just completey over their heads ( but they do have POTENTIAL :mad: )

Get a good switched on guy and your problems are over PRONTO

Kaufies, you got 4Mb? When? How does it compare to 384k?

Had it for a while. It was awesome when it worked which wasn't very often:erm:. It's a lot better than 384. Definitely worth the difference in price. I think I'll get them out to fix the problem later this week. I just hope I get a competent guy again!
 
I think everyone here wishes they had a 512mb line that crawled, even if you get 1% of it its still faster than what telkom offers

Telkom offers EVERYTHING :D

In fact that 512Mb line (you know the actual twisted pair in the wall socket) IS --> Telkoms :twisted:

Telkom service is differenet in each city or town. It all depends on the regional manager.

I remembered when I lived in Klerskdorp, Telkom service was excellent, they installed my line after a week of submitting my application, and when I had some minor troubles they came out within 24 hours.

Now I live in Potchefstroom, after 5 months I'm still waiting for my line. About 5 technicians came out and refused to install a line, as it is too much work.

So either you have bad service or good service, don't think there is something in between.
 
I have a 4mb line. On some days, it tend to be more stable than other days, although there's not much noise on my phone.

I mean, my line drops about once every 3hours (sometimes less) and on other days not a single drop, for atleast about 8hours. And if there is bad weather in the air, I wont even bother to go on the internet, since it drops so fast.

Any idea, if telkom would be able to sort this problem for me?
