In November last year I decided to upgrade to an Uncapped account on my 384kbps line with Telkom. After much calling and waiting, I finally got through and upgraded myself.

Until recently I didn't realize the incompetence of Telkom staff. After checking my statements I realized that I have been charged for the Uncapped Advanced account. This should not have been the case as I only have a 384kbps line. I also clearly stipulated to the staff, I wanted the basic uncapped option. I have been charged an extra R105 a month and to add to it, they have double charged me for the first month.

I called in to Billing inquiries and told them the issue. The employee admitted it was their fault but they cannot grant me a refund because it has been about 6 months from when they started charging me this amount. She then said all she can do is charge me for the Basic account for the months to come.

I did not check my statements for a while but when I did and found an issue, I don't see why I shouldn't be granted a full refund. The fault is Telkom's and I still haven't received a refund for approx R800.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

You need to make more people aware of it in their accounts department, keep tabs on names, reference numbers and even record the phone calls if you can do it. Heck threaten to go to the paper about it until something is done.

Sounds to me like this lady is trying to cover her a$$ more than actually help you.

I know the paper thing sounds extreme but R800+- is alot of money.

Also remember to check your statements more regularly :p

Tell them you want to declare a dispute and get a reference number. Follow up regularly. 6 months is not too long to get your money back.

I have done that online, under the Telkom online app, Looks like now I need to follow up.
