I have forwarded ports on a clients router, some of the forwarded ports work and some will not open, anyone else experienced this problem.

Have you tried the applications subsection? Find if some of those applications use the same ports as you require.
I am still trying to figure out how to set up a printer across the network using the port in the back, currently have it plugged in a pc.

Edit: also, what is your firewall configuration set on?
