Let me start by admitting I am no economist.
Now, I cannot understand how Telkom or the unions can propose a plan that offers a fixed amount from profits to the staff.
What happens if staff numbers increase dramatically?
What happens if Telkom profits are slashed dramatically? (We can live in hope!)

Surely any proposal should be based on a percentage of profits? Or did I miss something somewhere?

You missed something: It is almost impossible for a de facto monopoly to make a loss. It will take SNOT longer than the period valid for the offer to mak a dent in Telkoms client base.

Therfore they can offer guaranteed profit sharing amounts: The will get the money easily from somewhere: Us the end users.

I don't believe they'd be stupid enough to give all employee's a guaranteed R10 000 share, it just doesn't make sense. All employees indefinitely? It would go on for years and there's no reason to give a fixed amount!
