Telkom Price Drop "Maybe" Coming...

Thursday/Friday, my friend Daniel called Telkom to query having his line upgraded from 384 to 4MB, simply because he hates how slow his internet is.

Anyways, in discussion with the person from Telkom, he was told that there is possible price drops coming, the rep didn't say anything for sure, but said something bout 4MB being R100 less and then 384 also being that much.

Has anyone else heard about this?

I'm all for price drops!!!! :D

I'm not saying there IS DEF one, I'm just asking if anyone else has heard about these possible drops or if this stupid chick from Telkom was just talking about price drops we've already had (few months back)

Ya, that is when I would expect it to be. Another R100 off 4MB would not be the end of the world.

Bigger caps and free local would be a lot better. Also, scrapping line rental. But hey, it's , as always, a start :p
 
My guess, it'll be the day after Neotel go live with consumer products....

If Telkom can shave another 20% off their ADSL costs and configure their systems to dynamically differentiate between local & international data, I'd start smiling mildly.

I hope they don't hike the copper rental by another R15.

My list of wishes:

1) Scrap line rental
2) Bring down prices across the board
3) Raise caps to something reasonable (3GB is NOT reasonable)
4) Increase speeds (384k is NOT broadband)
5) Make the ridiculous idea that is local bandwidth free at least, with the view to scrap it in future altogether
6) Until it is scrapped, delineate between local and international bandwidth so that you can use your X amount of local at the same time as suing your 'international cap'

The end :)

We just have to wait and see what happens when Neotel comes in, maybe they just as bad as Telkom... I mean, none of us know anything.

We just have to wait and see what happens, if they come and things change, we could all be in for TRUE BROADBAND :)

There is very little Neotel needs to do to kick of client migration from Telkom. They can even match Telkom's packages for price and offer unshaped bandwidth and people will move. Neotel just needs to look at the little irritations experienced by Telkom customers
 
I think the telkom reps have been instructed to tie as many people as they can possible in to two year contracts before doing a price drop.

Nice try, telkom, but I will sit and wait it out.
 
Telkom's annual price changes to a basket of products (including line rental, local calls, adsl) is dependent on inflation.

Overall, prices will certainly rise in August. However, the price of ADSL as a specific product may come down.... but expect to see this balanced out by the legal maximum allowed increases in local calls, minimum charges, line rental (basic home line rental will prob go from R111 to R124pm from Aug).

That would make 384 k ADSL much cheaper than ISDN. That wouldn't happen I think, unless the price of ISDN rental drops, which would then make it cheaper than analog line rental.

Never in a million years will Telscum tie me in a two year contract.
