Telkom Price Drop "Maybe" Coming...

Threads like this make me sad. I doubt pricing will come down unless Neotel come out swinging this month...
 
debbi2, I know you're quite clued up on the whole basket of price adjustments and what not, so hopefully you can answer this. If Neotel were to launch their consumer services this month and cheaper rates than Telkom, would Telkom be allowed to adjust their prices immediately or do they have to wait, according to regulations, until a certain point later in the year?

Generally they have to wait until the yearly price adjustment- submitted to ICASA in June and applicable (on ICASA approval) from August.

There is an allowance made for price changes to be effected outside of this schedule, however this would be highly unusual, require special circumstances and need ICASA approval.

In short Telkom would have a tough time putting through an off-schedule price increase - as for an off-schedule price decrease, well, this is Telkom we are talking about. :rolleyes:
 
I cant believe that the cap still hasn't got any bigger. Rather give us 30gb for the same price!!!
 
haha, thanks for clearing that up.

I guess it's therefore pretty strategic for Neotel to launch at a time when Telkom cannot immediately adjust their prices, and also for Neotel to set the right product price point in order to hit back at Telkom and lock customers into cheaper, long-term contracts.
 
FACT: Until Neotel launches their consumer products, Telkom isn't going to lower any prices, hence to maximise profits.
 
Telkom will MAYBE drop prices when Neotel MAYBE launches commercially!

AFAIK even if you do sign a two year contract with telkom you still receive the benefit of any price changes as the contract does not tie you to a fixed rate.

I do not see how a price drop from telkom is a factor in pushing for new contracts :confused:
 
Personally I don't think they will drop their rates soon because they need to save up a few rands for that white elephant called Telkom media.
 
its the same as the mobile network they will drop prices only when there is competition.
when MTN dropped there prices on 3G vodacom followed and dropped it by 61%

So telkom will milk us up untill the day Neotel launches

yes, but Vodacom was first to drop their prices back in the day when a meg still cost R25 to R50. All in all, the networks do seem to be quite "synchronised" ;)

The sad thing is that Telkom would probably drop their pants and moon you before they ever dropped their prices

One thing that is certain is that they are full of s*&t! :P

I am hoping and waiting for the Price War. And more importantly more cap / removal of it! Seriously, 3 Gigs is a joke.
