No man. Telkom roams on MTN when there is no Telkom Mobile coverage.

i know. the thing is, we have telkom mobile coverage. as i have tested it with another telkom mobile sim card. though it still roams all the time. now i'm missing the usage of the mobile data that is part of the contract.

If you have an Android phone, you can go into Settings > More Networks > Mobile Networks > Network Operators and either select "Select Automatically" or select "Telkom" from the list, which will then only use Telkom and not roam when needed.

I don't understand.

I have a prepaid Telkom Mobile SIM card, and I have been travelling around the country, and it has been absolutely useless.
It hardly ever works (only works in big cities, but not everywhere in them even), it loses signal constantly, and then says service unavailable (yet shows 4 bars of signal), and sometimes H+ is shown, yet it can't access data because the network is not TM, it's MTN or something. So - MTN is available, but TM doesn't work. WHY?

What phone do you have?

I have a TM contact. Roams fine on MTN and data works without issue. Can't imagine what your issue could be, sorry. Just saying mine works fine.

I have a Note 3, and the issue is definitely not my phone.

Is it possible its because I am not on a contract? (which is a bs reason but I have to ask)

That wouldn't be it.

Have you set your phone to only connect to TM? Otherwise it should automatically switch to MTN.

If you are on prepaid I think TM data purchases has two options. One only TM networks and the other all networks.

No - I have tried switching networks, and with MTN selected, it shows H+, but won't download anything (says its been paused because of roaming) With auto network, it says "no service", but shows 4 bars of signal

You have to have the data roaming selected in settings > mobile networks for data to work when you roam on MTN. Telkom Mobile does not tell people this but I think on android and even apple devices the data roaming option is disabled by default.

No, no.

TM sends an SMS saying: "Your internet access has been paused because you are using Out of Bundle Data"
