Hi
Anyone else from Rondebosch experiencing the dismal speeds from the Rondebosch exchange?
I am on a 4Mbps ADSL line and am getting about 0.3 Mbps (download speed) on average - after much investigation and a ridiculous amount of time on the phone to Telkom it was determined to be the Exchange which is overloaded (Axxess confirmed it has 0% capacity)

I am worried that there is nothing other than to hope that Telkom will upgrade the exchange ...

Anyone else going through this or have any insights into this issue? Hint @Telkom guy on forums

Cancel your ADSL and wait at least 1 month after cancellation. Reapply.

If that doesn't work, cancel again, wait 1 month, convert your line to a business line, reapply and convert back to residential afterward.

If that doesn't work you are better off finding a WISP.

I dont see how this is going to help?

If he leaves someone will take his spot.

I'm on the same exchange but my experience is wholly different so perplexed that Telkom have confirmed there is a problem.I get full speeds most of the time on a 10MB line.I suggest sending TelkomZA a PM asking him to confirm your findings. He will also be a useful resource in helping to fix the problem.

Axxess has been much discussed as the source of many problems. Try a 1Gig free account from another ISP on a different backbone like WebAfrica (IS network) and compare them.

Yup, getting the same here. It's intermittently bad. I was told months ago that the exchange was overloaded and that there was no capacity. Nothing has been done.

Yes, I have intermittent performance and line-drop issues with Rondebosch exchange. I'm remote, but I have a server in Rondebosch into which I RDP over VPN all day every weekday. Lots of probs over the past few months, seemingly getting worse. Just today the line dropped at around 16h00 and was still down by the time I left the office. Line is a business contract.

I have just received an email from Rondebosch Community Improvement District informing me that they are interested in embarking on a project in the same vein as the Constantia Fibre project, obviously subject to demand. So if you are in Rondebosch and are frustrated with only having Telkom as a choice pm me for further details to express your interest.
