Hi
I have changed over from an ADSL 4Mbps to a Telkom Unlimted LTE fixed line.
In the beginning I got up to 50 - 60 Mbps download speeds but lately my download speed is sitting below 3 Mbps with my Upload being faster at around 4 Mbps.

Has anyone got an idea why this could be and how to resolve the problem??

I have launched a complaint with Telkom but the Technician was not aware of any problems within my area?

I would have been better off with the ADSL line if this problem persists.
Problem is I had to signed into a 24 months contract and would like to get out if it cannot be resolved.

Hi Dieter

I have a similar problem to what you are describing. I had excellent speeds of 50 - 70 Mbps, which then dropped to +-4mbs, while my upload stayed at +-8mbs. It is now slow any time of day and does not go higher than +-4mbs. I have logged a fault with Telkom, but after 2 weeks I'm still waiting for a technician to come to my home.

I have tested/tried everything. Over the weekend I took my router to a friend's house. He uses a different base station and my speeds were excellent. I have come to the conclusion that the problem is definitely with my base station. I spoke to someone from Telkom last week and he mentioned that they made updates/changes to their network and some people have been experiencing problems, but other than that I have received no explanation.

Cheers

I too have logged a fault and followed up today with my reference number but after 1 week it is not even at the Local Technician as Telkom is apparently experiencing high volumes of cal louts, not surprised.
I will refuse payment if they cannot fix the problem within the next week as I signed up for high speed LTE network, which I do not get at the moment.
If Telkom makes changes to the base station they should warn their users and give them a direct portal to report any problems so that the Technicians can react and resolve.
Thanks for reply at least I know it is not only in our area.

I finally had someone from the Tech department phone me - no wonder it's so cold all of sudden. I'm waiting for it to snow! Apparently a technician will come to visit me tomorrow. The technician will do his own checks and report back, so I'm guessing at least another week before my problem is resolved :( .

Dieter, I spoke to the billing department and they said that if a fault is detected on their side, they will refund me for the period that I had unacceptable performance. I'm hoping this is the case...

What area you guys in? I just ordered today, now I'm worried

I don't think it such a wide spread problem, so I don't think you need to worry too much...

I went from an 8mbs ADSL line to Telkom LTE and it made a MASSIVE difference - no issues for the first 3 weeks. It took me just over an hour to download 30gbs of Witcher 3. Steam downloads at 8MBs (after 8pm - 9pm) - it's a dream. 2gb game updates? No problem, update and play in less than 10 minutes. If you're speeds are as good as mine was, then going back to 8mbps ADSL seems like a nightmare. When it works, it's great (at least compare to my old ADSL line).

/follows thread with interest.

I'm considering this in order to get better throughput (stuck on an ADSL line that won't yield better than 8Mbps.
