Hi everyone

I just want to know if anyone else here has had the same experience.

We applied for a Telkom landline, as we want to set up Internet access from home. We called in and was told that due to cable theft in the area Telkom will no longer install landlines.

We were also told that we need to get some wireless phone Telkom now offers.

As for Internet, Telkom said that they cannot provide Internet access to people living in such areas. They advised us to go to Vodacom or MTN as 8TA has no reception in the area.

I just feel that it is quite unfair....

Welcome to the 3rd world.

Not quite the same story but Telkom have informed me that because they have planned infrastructure upgrades for my area (which they are still unsure when they will begin), they cannot authorise new internet connections to the exchange for at least the next two years.

Ridiculous...

Yes, this is quite common. Think of it in Telkom's terms, keep on replacing cables and they get stolen straight away

Stealing of Copper is a serious issue, again installing of fibre to Home is expensive, so Telkom is caught in-between, LLU must come so that companies will share the cost of the last mile infrastructure. you can stil get 8ta and roam on MTN or MTN, or Voda, Cell C

This is a pretty common occurrence. I didn't think that the day would come when a major deciding factor on where to live would be in Telkom's hands.

We were told exactly the same thing, copper has been stolen so we can't help you. We then tried our luck four months later and now have an scheduled for tomorrow. Maybe give it some time and apply again?

Not sure where you are, MapleTel is covering Centurion at this stage, and will be expanding its footprint during the next 3-4 months (including east of Pretoria, Dinokeng, Harties, East Rand, Heidelburg, through to Newcastle.

Theft is major problem the way I see it the government is to blame as they are not doing much as usual sleeping as usual on the tv wish I could sleep and get paid....
