Telkom seems to now go around and offer "free Telkom/MTN-boosters" to estates. Has anyone got any experience if there are any limitations? i.e. are the Telkom devices multi-carrier and do they support 3G and LTE?

There also seems to be some sort of "buy-in" - i.e. "the device is installed and maintained by Telkom". I have not seen any contracts/paperworks, but generally nothing is ever done for free. Not sure if there is some exclusivity and if it is a single-carrier booster if this would not possibly negatively affect users not on Telkom/MTN.

It is also my understanding that the booster devices support a limited amount of clients - what will happen if the max-client limit has been reached (will my phone then connect to the cell-phone tower instead?). Biggest concern is that cell-service might actually get worse if the wrong device is installed (i.e. not supporting enough clients and/or not having enough coverage).

This was for a commercial installation - i.e. literally a mini-mast with a coverage of a good 1-2km

Are you talking about the towers mounted on street poles or something else?

City Power are in the process of installing a tower on a streetlight outside my complex (near Fourways Gardens). They didn't consult with our homeowners at all. We just found a notice attached to one of the newly installed poles informing us it's destined to become a cell tower. No mention of network.

What estate/road is this? If you mail me (cto@bidorbuy.co.za) your email, I can include you in a mail I need to send to our ward-councillor any way. The CityPower project was not approved in our area for the following installations:

Broadacres_LP1 - 12 Broadacres Dr, Sandton, 2055
No drawings, site surveys not done yet

Broadacres_LP2 - 0A Pine Rd, Sandton, 2055
No drawings, site surveys not done yet
Opposite open area

Broadacres_LP3 - 0B Syringa Ave, Sandton, 2055
No drawings, site surveys not done yet
Broadacres farm nursery school

Broadacres_LP4 - 11 Frederick Rd, Sandton, 2021
No drawings, site surveys not done yet

Broadacres_LP5 - 34 Frederick Rd, Sandton, 2055
No drawings, site surveys not done yet

Broadacres_LP6 - Bushwillow Ave, Sandton, 2055
No drawings, site surveys not done yet
Green area

The consulting company for example literally went to Broadacres nursey school and somehow managed to get approval by the guy running the nursery. No parents were informed. The notices put up were inadequate as well - I think I saw one A4 piece of paper which you could only read by walking past.
