The 24 month contract only applies to the devices; tablet, pc, easi-net.

I am using the simple uncapped package and have not had to sign a single document.
I confirmed with the telkom sales rep that it was a month to month deal and even went as far as logging a telephonic call stating the same and getting the telkom call center person to state the same.

Just has a look at my bill from last month and my total excluding calls come to R479.60incl for:

Phone Line Rental
1Mb/s ADSL Line
Do Uncapped Basic

This seems cheaper than that Simple package but then again I know the prices went up recently.

Try convincing them to give you a modem without the 24m. Its a bit of a long shot though - usually they only bend that rule right at the start of a promotional campaign.

Maybe - when I got my ADSL I eye-balled the situation very carefully though & Simple was by far the best option (for my situation). I went with 2mb and 10gig package though since I've got a separate uncapped a/c.

I essentially have 2 Telkom 24 month contracts and have had another 2 gracefully terminate:
[1] I have a laptop for R160 per month for 24 months on contract with the total paid over the period amounting to less than what the laptop retails for. Each month my Telkom invoice also tells me an outstanding balance so I can terminate gracefully if the idea of paying something off cringes me. This does not however tie me to maintaining a line
[2] I have a 24 month line rental contract that provides me with both the discounted bundle for TI and DSL line rental and ensures that I have a working router. This has worked out well because it means that instead of putting money aside for the inevitable router replacement I simply rely on Telkom and the discount pricing more than covers what handing my line over to an ISP would be.

Telkom really are making inroads in the retail sector.
