Telkom slashes ADSL and FTTH prices

Any news on whether the SmartHome Bundles will drop in price with these new rates?
I'm currently paying R570 for:
- 4Mbps line
- 20GB SoftCap (free full-speed night time downloading!)
- Unlimited Telkom-to-Telkom landline calls
- SIM#1 with 50 mins per month
- SIM#2 with 500MB data per month
 
Thank you Telkom. I’ve changed from do Uncapped Advanced to do Premium. It is cheaper, offer higher speed and has sufficient data. :)
 
To be honest folk would just be happy with a decrease in the line rental price, (unlooping a far cry away) Helkom can keep their bundles.
 
My do uncapped basic is R484.50(rental included), still very competitive for data rather than speed heavy use.

Same here. Am on the Simple and it's still cheaper than these reduced advanced packages. I guess we bargained and hopefully it stays
 
So Telkom is the 1st ISP to push down interconnect price changes down to their clients/customers? Where are the other ISPs?

Did you sign up to a 24 month contract? I tried to make the same switch, but was told it is not available on a month-to-month basis.

Can a voice bundle like closer be added to this, without paying twice for the monthly line rental? Again I was told that because they are separate packages, I will get charged in full for both (do Premium @ R699, and Closer3 voice package at R349 pm, for a total of R1,408). Didn't sound right to me, but I had no basis or energy to challenge them after standing in line for an hour to be served!

Take a look at the SmartHome packages...
This one looks like it will fit you: http://www.telkommobile.co.za/smart-home-premium.html ... it's R899/month

I am on the SmartHome Advanced deal.
If you tell them you don't want any of the devices, the deal is automatically month-to-month
Or you can lock yourself into a 24-month contract and get a few devices thrown in.

Anything goes... My torrents run as fast as they can all night (00:00 til 07:00).
I've had the package for many months now and it's never been shaped from what I've seen.
I frequently use 5x more data on my night time downloads than the cap that I pay for :)

No I didn't. I believe the contract is required when you take the free Wi-Fi modem option which I haven't.
 
People flame Telkom but these prices compare very favourably with other ISP's when comparing the adsl prices. Since all the softcap options include the line rental means that all the prices are the total price you pay a month and no extra line rental when choosing other ISP's

Very very good pricing. Being softcap they also offer unlimited data between 00:00 and 7am and unlimited social media data 24/7
 
So they "slash" the cost of entry by R9. Can keep.
 
The reductions are not too significant, but in these tough times I will take any reduction, than an increase. Hope the other ISP also reduce their prices. I am on Webafrica 10Mbps, 60Gb anytime and 240GB from 12:00 to 6:00am. I am tempted to switch to the Telkom do Premium 10Mbps for R699 just to save R90 per month
 
Just found out that VDSL back end fibre has been installed in the trenches they have been digging in the street at our business premises. VDSL here I come...

Noob question: when Telkom converts a current 10mb ADSL line to 40mb VDSL, will my current ADSL modem continue working at 10mb until I buy a VDSL modem and connect it up or will I lose services until I swap the ADSL router with a VDSL enabled unit?
 
Also disappointed that uncapped is untouched. Guess I'll wait and hope for the base line speed to finally go from 2mbps to 4 :/

Bear in mind that if you sign up with WebAfrica for fibre but end up taking only the line from them and the data from someone else, the line rental increases by R100 a month.
That particular clause is buried inside their fibre T's & C's and I believe it's still applicable.
