Telkom soars over 5% on update

All our hard earned money making Telkom richer. :(
Telkom attributed the improved performance to "restructuring expenses and extending the useful lives of certain assets".
What that means is they just keep flogging the old equipment.
The telecommunications analyst also cited the group's retrenchment policy as another factor that would help the company easily accomplish its targets.
Sounds about right. :p

Acoomplishing their targets? The only target they have is to deny as many South Africans affordable prices as possible.

No, seriously though, they have no rollout targets, they just install new lines into areas where then can make a profit. Like i always say, making money off a basic necessity takes as much skill as kicking a brick. Communications sells itself, a plank with a painted-on face could run telkom too.

my prediction: this is the very last bullish market update from tlkom

based on: limited knowledge, a perceived growing inability on the part of government to continue defending the indefensible, karmic belief and an undying optimism

Care for a side-bet of about R100.00 ? I bet you dom, R100, that nobody on earth that invests in companies cares about the little guy, and that this is not going to be the last bull run, by a loong shot. I bet dom, R100, that before Feb 2006, shares will have risen another 20%. 20% - Thats huuge ! You in dom ? You win if their shares as of todays 5% do not go a further 20% by 1 Feb 2006 00:00:00.

sheesh, put up or shut up :D; seeing as i am going against market sentiment and majority analysis would you consider an added double or quits on the same terms for Feb 2007?

+ a R20 bonus to me if the share price is less than current levels on Feb 2006?

i'll find a share price at closing on the JSE a little later

even with a SNO telkom will stay strong. look at both sentech and iburst. the two companies are a joke compared to telkom. telkom is like a big cruiser in the ocean for it to steer direction takes time... that is also their weak point.

but so far the competition is mild to nothing.

Telscum will definitely make the R160 per share. They will retrench about another 5000 employees (well this is the talk in Telkom hallways) which will add another few mil to their bottom line.

Share close at 28 Feb 2006

Date 28/02/2006
Close 16300
High 17100
Low 16300
Volume 1845756

Your last post :
Buy = 11170
So ... 16300 - 11170 = 5130.
5130 / 11170 = 45.9 % freaking increase.

. erm . check logic
So ... 120 - 100 = 20.
20 / 100 = 20% [0.2 * 100]

/melikes to win but in this case it's BLEUGH.
shiff ? R I correct ?

I think you may be right, if Government sells its shares, Telkom will loose a lot of their protection. One also has to consider all the court cases against Telkom, when those chickens come home to roost (ie, the 3.2 billion rand fine from the competition commision), its the shareholders who are going to have to pay out.

Add to that a general growing resentment to telkom, as more and more people are getting informed, that bubble can only last so long, and when it pops, I honest to god hope most of their shareholders go with it. I feel nothing for those country rapists.

LOL - maybe right but a year too early

i is being happy to be paying - pls be pm'ing me the necessary

care for a further year's wager - same terms

edit - considers date and that grace period until 10 May 2006 within which teklom shares will implode; quickly lassoo's pony before it gets too far away

:p not yet :)

Sympathy stoke - :(

Telkom's earnings is a depiction of the rape of the South African public. The ordinary man on the street is being abused. Rape is too light a word to describe this crime. Even the people who are not using landline services because it is too expensive are baring the brunt of this government supported pillaging! This is THE RAPE OF A NATION!

The very fact that telkom has these earnings says they are not servicing the country. What other telco in the world is sitting on massive profit?! None. What other telco still owned (or massive holding) by a government? Only in the 3rd world maybe.
