Telkom spoils the party

Goodness..Yeah (scream) You do not know how reading this is such an emotional triumph, and adrenelin rush, even if that's all for now.

Thumbs Up Antowan RPM and Kie. Telkom should by now understand they put the wrong gloves on to tackle and degrade the MyADSL and Helkom forum and forumites. They probably saw us as a bunch of gaming kids ranting for higher pings. They did not see MyADSL and others coming That's for sure !! They probably did not realise there are highly qualified, skilled and determined people, business leaders in their own right, running and posting on this forum
This calls for a beer!
When is the MyADSL do due....Need to celebrate ?????

During this time, the department will also meet with the operators to gauge their views
this part disturbs me, the operators had ample time to air their views. why should they be given preferential treatment to private talks

That is good news. Roy Padayachie is doing good things.
Not sure if I understand the antowan thing though

Jstrike at the DoC colloquium Telkom tried to hijack the breakaway group with delaying attics as they are well renowned for. Antowan jumped up, made his back arch, with raised hair and asked if the group must be renamed to a Telkom group. This brought things back in perspective I presume reading in the lines. This was so appreciated that Belinda Anderson, MoneyWeb, posted a news event about it. Telkom is lucky he did not have a Bazooka handy. That would have got front page coverage on all papers. Thus I renamed him to Telkom Buster, deservedly I think. LoL

Padayachie said within six to eight weeks the market would start to see the first steps of implementing the working group’s proposals.
Pardon me for not believing this bullsh1t. I've heard it before.

Yeah RoDent, sounds like the same lipservice we have been dished up year in and year out.
South Africa is part of Africa. The mentality is the same for the most. Everybody is out to screw everybody else. It's all about greed, bleed 'em dry, leave them to rot. This has been evident for so many years in SA telecoms, it has become nauseating. Talk is cheap, which corresponds to a one to one relationship with the amound of effort those in positions of power actually contribute to the country.

Give Pada a chance, He deserves it. He is new on the block and very vocal or rather determined. By end November we can re address this topic and see what the New DoC and Pada achieved if any

Go ant :D Not much effect on the monopoly but hopefully they're sitting in their evil castle and cursing your name :D

I thought Rodent at least would see how fast things are happening. The progress over the last two years, compared to the two before, is staggering. And largely thanks to him and this site

JStrike, I don't disagree that we've made progress. In 1.5 years we've gone from Telkom-only to Sentech, WBS, and the cell operators playing in the market. That's a good thing. Big companies are finally realizing there's money to be made in this market.

But when I say I've heard this bullsh1t before, I truly mean that. We've heard that the SNO is about to be licensed for how long now?

When someone from the DOC says something to the tune of 6 to 8 weeks, I have to be sceptical. I don't think Ivy even plans her hair appointments that shortly in advance.

The DOC is a trundling beast. ICASA is a trundling beast. They promised action within a month. How long has it been now?

I don't disagree that things are happening. But 6-8 weeks is undoable. At least for the DOC. Then again, I may be forced to eat my words again. If in two months time the ISM band becomes truly free, I will buy Ivy and Padayachie both a beer. That would be a great start.

Anything else is lipservice.

And to add insult to injury, Telkom is simply ignoring ICASA's recommendations completely and continuing on their profit-taking plan for the first of November. One would think that if Padayachee can promise action on the entire Telecommunications market within 6-8 weeks, he would be able to give Telkom a slap on the wrist on a minor issue against which the regulator has already recommended within 2-4 weeks.

All i say is wait and see because that is all we can do for the moment. But things could still change. For the better i hope.

Agreed - Imagine Rodent (or another vocal forumite) takes over Pada's position in a few years - would we automatically assume he would also be useless? Let the man have his moment before we condemn him.

What?! Ye good ol' Rat as Minister?! *shudder*
Heheheee - come to think of it, maybe he'll develop some
innovative biotech drivers, to make the DoC work as it should...

A little birdie whispered into my ear that the SNO will be making an announcement in the next 7-10 days that they are open for business!!
Apparently they have been very busy behind the scenes and this birdie claims that the SNO has signed up considerable corporate clients already.

TATA, being a large shareholder will have some interesting announcements regarding international bandwidth.

This birdie also spoke at length about the problem of "last mile" or local loop unbundling, and stated that although this issue has not been resolved as of yet, they are very positive that it will be resolved shortly, as their discussions with DOC & GOV have proven fruitful.

This is all just speculation as the comments were made off record, over a beer, but I will be keeping a close eye on the news sites in the following week!!

Surely they would have needed significant resources to do this but i dont remember any sort of advertisement for jobs relating to the SNO.

Did anyone see that tv ad about 'South Africa welcomes TATA to our shores' ?
Maybe that's giving something away ?

Allison Gillwald meanwhile, the research director of the LINK Centre at Wits University, said one shouldn’t confuse the need for a good understanding of the industry before embarking on far-reaching policy changes, with delaying tactics. She said the current situation was the result of poor policy decisions in the past: “Pricing is an outcome of the policy environment…”
Ok so how long it take for somebody to realise that there is a problem?. This is not something that has suddenly emerged and needs to be looked into, How much time has there been for getting a good understanding of the industry?, it is not like it started last week. There are also 100's of other countries one can look at for references to see how simular situations where handled. Of course when our MoC doesn't even care how much we get charged and what our tarrifs are.. I seriously doubt anyone else gives a damn either.

You can call it delaying tactics you can call it "better understanding" its all the same in the end.. If it smells like a fish, looks like a fish, and tastes like a fish.. Its stands a damn good chance of being a fish.. No matter what you call it!

Bottom line .. "VERY WELL SAID" Antowan! Cheers to you and everyone else.
