Telkom supports OpenDNS

Does it still work when internationally capped?

bwana, that's a very good point you have there...

Also, I'm wondering this: Will this from now on work automatically on other products like iBurst, WiMax and 3G if their backhaul provider happens to be Telkom/SAIX?

What is this?
OpenDNS gives you the option to block dozens of categories on your networks, for free. From social networking to job sites, from gambling to video sharing, from webmail to alcohol and more: with OpenDNS, you make the choice about what's available on your network.
Oh, so you setup your computers to use OPENDNS's name servers instead of the default SAIX ones, and wham ... you can select who can and cannot see which servers ... PROVIDED that your network's ip address' never changes??

Insofar as the "Will it still work when internationally capped?", I can only attest that using ZoneEdit name servers has worked fine for me even when internationally capped, which kind of implies that filtering/routing rules for DNS have been configured at SAIX to allow international DNS queries through. But this is hardly a scientific measure.

To test the OpenDNS on Internationally Capped, I took the following steps:
1 - Turned off SQUID (My Proxy) running on my computer.
2 - Disconnected from the internet.
3 - Changed my SAIX Local-Only dial-up account (axxess prepaid local only) to use the DNS servers 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 (From https://www.opendns.com/start/ bottom of the page)
4 - Ran ipconfig /flushdns to removed all saved DNS entries on my computer.
5 - Removed the "Use Proxy" option from firefox.
6 - Connected on dial-up using the local-only connection ONLY.
7 - Opened this page and posted this post.

i.e. Works fine on OpenDNS Local Only.

I WAS WRONG
Nevermind, it seems that I was wrong.
If you setup only a local-only connection, and use the NSLOOKUP tool, and switch to the 208.67.220.220 server, and try do a lookup on google.com or google.co.za, it just times out.
This service does not work on internationally capped as far as I can tell.

Code:
C:\WINDOWS>nslookup
> server 208.67.220.220
Default Server: resolver2.opendns.com
Address: 208.67.220.220

> google.co.za
Server: resolver2.opendns.com
Address: 208.67.220.220

DNS request timed out.
    timeout was 2 seconds.

Somehow, Firefox is still working fine though, but I have absolutely no idea where its getting it's nameserver information from.

probably defaults to obtaining DNS automatically... as if you had that box checked in your router.

Thanks for putting it through its paces.

Pity.

Anytime. :D
< off topic > I am quite amazed with Firefox. I opened Internet Explorer, and it failed nicely when I tried to open up google.co.za. < / off topic >

OpenDNS supports dynamic IP addresses. Just download their client app, enter your opendns login details. It keeps your IP address up to date, so that your security/filter settings remain enforced.

Thanks for the info guys, I suppose that closes the issue, even if IS does support it, there seems to be no point on a local only account.

Using local only achieves 95% of the OpenDNS's filtering functions anyway.

Sure, but having to reset DNS information when locally capped is just annoying.

@ "D" - The AXXESS local-only account I am using is defined here : http://www.axxess.co.za/local.php , and I can connect to the SAIX news server on that service, and I cannot connect to the IS news server, which pretty much confirms that it is a proper SAIX local-only account.
