My brother-in-law went to a Telkom shop to ask them to reset his Telkom ADSL password as he had forgotten it. The idiot behind the counter then proceeded to reset his username too, and deleted his email addresses, one of which he uses for work.... This was on Sunday, been trying to reinstate those email addresses since then. Does anyone have any advice on expediting him getting his addresses back? I have reached out to Telkom on Facebook, Twitter and hellopeter, but so far all talk and no action.

Try using the password management tool to see if the mailboxes have actually been deleted and reset the passwords if not - https://online.telkomsa.net/pmt/

The password management tool said the account doesn't exist...

Interestingly, the rep on twitter said the account was unactive and he reactivated it and sent me the username and password. Still doesn't work, and emails still bounce. Didn't really do any security checks either :)

AFAIK they can't move the old mailboxes across when creating a new account, what should have happened is the mailboxes be moved to separate billing @ ~R15/mth

I'm guessing the mailboxes are still there but need to be activated and billed on your account, TelkomZA might be able to help here. PM them with account number and the old mailbox addresses - http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/private.php?do=newpm&u=258937

Thanks Mick. Looks like the Twitter rep is slowly winning, but I will try that route if that doesn't work.

I cant say this will be helpful but it worked for me even though the response was left field.
I had the same problem 2 months ago
I sent an a email to '[email protected]' asking to re-activate my old email that call centre messed up.
received auto reply with reference. 10 mintues later it was working.
3 days after that got this response.
For security purposes, to maintain account integrity, we do not have access to the passwords. Customer need to call 10210 option 1 for password related problems.

Unfortunately this is a mailing support system and no call back will be done.

I'm one step closer to winning. Can now login and emails to that address aren't bouncing. However, those emails aren't coming up. Would they take a while to come through after being reactivated?

They shouldn't, I'm not seeing any problems with TI's mail servers today.

I dunno why people use isp email accounts, host your own or use a cloud solution like gmail. You can even have your own domain name.

Been with gmail since 2004 and I can count the amount of outages on my one hand.

I agree with you 100%. I registered a domain for him a while ago, but there was resistance moving over to it. Now we can go forward with it.

That many? I only noticed one in the 10+ years I've been on Gmail, I got a message saying something to the effect of my account can't be accessed right now and that no data would be lost. I retried a few minutes later and logged straight in. That was a GOOD few years ago, and the only time I know of.
