Telkom to kill and replace ADSL

I expect this matter to end in a dispute between ISP's and Telkom since Telkom has a monopoly over copper infrastructure in this country. ISP's would lose a ton of revenue in the process.

Ease up with the entitlement there.

My gran has a FLLA phone which she pays R200 line rental for. If she switches to Smart Voice will she have to pay The line rental on top of the monthly subscription fee?

Telkom keeps calling me and trying to offer me a conversion to fibre. Drawback is they want me to pay in extra. They also want me to commit to 24m. Sorry, but I ain't that dumb

BAD idea! - Our little town has NO fibre or ftth for residential + 67% of coverage area doesn't have any 8ta/Telkom LTE coverage as proposed substitute. How now brown cow? Stable protocol platforms are going to go mad on poor 3g/LTE.

Okay, but what about areas where none of this can work, and you only have VDSL or ADSL to work of?

At the current rate to have business fibre installed were you can get it, you looking at at least 3-6months months.

You may not be dumb but you aren't being smart either.

if you have fibre in the area (even if its Openserve) you can sign on with any ISP (like Cool ideas) it will be cheaper and faster then ADSL and just cancel your adsl and phone - if you really want the same number port it to VOIP

When I'm finally forced to switch my VDSL to Vuma Fibre, no way in hell I'm using Telkom as my ISP. I'd consider an LTE solution, but only if it's month to month, and I'd need a decent amount of data too.

And suffer through buffering while waiting for Netflix to try and work through this carp signal. Telkom have lied, they have not contacted me about alternatives and are being dead quite every time I try to contact them. My DSL is rock steady and works well.

About what specifically?

I followed it up after the highlighted part, like it is right there <_<. They have never contacted me to discuss moving me off DSL.

I'm getting 37ms ping on LTE. What kind of latency are you getting?

It never is stable enough to do any sort of test. You will see a connection, you will try to browse, it times out and the signal drops to 2G, it will start loading, then change to LTE and repeat the cycle. It is extremely unreliable.
