Telkom to offer 100Mbps DSL

Where's the plans for lowering IPC costs instead of rolling out redundant technology.

Too late im afraid, the Fibre train has arrived where u deal with providers who actually care about service, and not just milking u because u had no alternative

Yawn, so what five or six people will get this? If a lot of areas can't even get ADSL what is the point? The ones who want 100megs are already on Fibre, you're only 6 years too late Telkom.

Thanks Telkom, but when can I expect FTTH instead? I'm already too far from my exchange for 10Mbps.

Only for people who live in the exchange....

I cant even get a new adsl line installed from telkom, they want me to wait for fibre...

I am still waiting for VDSL, availability of Telkom services is poor at best.
Smaller players seem to be overtaking an established company:confused:

"Where G.fast technology can prove valuable, however, is when a copper line is connected from a home to a fibre-backhauled cabinet, allowing higher speeds over the last mile."

In other words, FTTC.

This is Australia's current 'backup' connectivity method, as the rollout of their FTTH NBN is not exactly on schedule.

I can get 40Mbps VDSL but I want fibre so I can stop paying for the phone and get higher upload speeds.

According to Wikipedia, for 100Mbit your loop length needs to be <500m. Good luck with that.

basically this will be rolled out to gated villages that have existing copper inside, and a cabinet outside on the curb

Ai jirre Telkom.
Based on the current rollout plan for fibre from 3rd parties and the tiny amount of use cases this could actually work for they'd probably make more money if they focused on fibre and sold off the copper before it gets stolen anyway.

To be fair, that is the loop length from the fiber-connected street cabinet to your house, not the loop length from the exchange to your house.

Telkom, have you forgotten what dire straits the state of your copper network is in?

Actually, this technology is meant to be mounted on a pole outside your house or in a cabinet at the corner of your street. So even if today you can't get proper DSL speeds, the G.Fast micro DSLAMs can be placed much closer to your house. It is necessary to roll out faster speeds to copper dense areas where perhaps fibre is not economical.

Ultimately, do you really care what technology lies between you and the local exchange as long as it is fast and reliable?
