So I had a visit from a Telkom Rep 2 nights ago. Turns out I qualify for the free upgrade to fibre (Westville, Durban). She explained the prices, and the limitations (contract, have to pay in if you cancel, etc.). But the shocking thing for me was this: She is the Fibre & Telkom Rep for my area/fibre zone. Any time I have any Telkom Issues, I give her a call, and she will sort it out. No helpdesk. If technical help is required, she will put me straight through to an agent who can help me. This is their strategy for fixing their customer service and helpdesk woes.

Sadly, their prices were too high. R1600p.m. for the 100Mbps fibre with 200GB data + night surfer. Much cheaper through IspAfrika + Afrihost data. Add on a voice line from Vox and I still come in below R1600p.m.

I am currently with Afrihost and am very happy because of their amazing Customer Service (my experience, yours may vary). Sadly they haven't jumped on the fibre wagon as yet, so I'll be looking elsewhere soon.

All in all, I think its a positive sign for Telkom's future.

Check the feedback thread, it seems Bryn is using a Capped Afrihost account.

I am going to be honest, but it is to little to late. Also, how long do you think before they go back to their old ways. Also, open network charging IPC costs to ISP make them stupid expensive. That is why the liked of Greencom, Vuma etc will slowly kill Telkom

Also had a visit from a similar rep who also gave the whole "any time you have any Telkom Issues, give me a call" pitch. I have used it, the rep answered once out of 6 times I called and said he will SMS a "special" number I can call to get assistance. Got SMS'ed 10210.
